I was inspired by several
of my customers in the last year who said that Conformal ECO is the hottest
thing since sliced bread.
'Hot' because they now
get their silicon to the market faster with less pain.
automation (thanks to Conformal ECO!) helps 'recycle' existing designs
faster (compared to human effort, especially for more complex changes which can
be a daunting task), to save schedule time and unnecessary
rerunning-of-tool-pains. No longer do you need to depend solely on
multiple engineers to work on ECOs manually or maybe with error prone scripts
that need to be customized for different situations. Conformal ECO can takes
it's place or can augment an ASIC flow and do what its only purpose in
life is - to generate the ECO logic - and then stick that into the
original golden design. It's a choice that our customers' love.
Why waste work that you've already done (like closing timing on a tough design,
then re-doing it all at the last minute because less than 0.00001% of the
design changed due to an ECO) when you can use tool automation to do the
job at lightning speed with minimal effect on your ASIC flow? Or why
spend manual effort day after day, week after week, when you can spin many ECOs
in one day using tool automation? It totally makes sense as a solution to a
common problem, since almost every design goes through some ECOs eventually
based on customer feedback and my past experiences as a designer, which is why
people are coming in masses to find out more and get their hands on Conformal

Over the past year, here are some
customer quotes about Conformal ECO:
"This is SOOO cool - must be the
hottest thing in Cadence right?"
"This is similar to the advent of
synthesis, the impact is unthinkable."
"Finally, something innovative
that we need. I never liked doing manual ECOs."
"You saved my schedule by at least
a month, and I just started using it. I love Conformal ECO!!!"
"Because of Conformal ECO, I can
now go home on time and spend time with the family on the weekend." (this
one made my customer and me laugh)
"I don't fear ECOs any more - big
or small, it doesn't matter."
"ECO automation has changed the
way we make business decisions. We use Yes/No metrics with the help of
data from Conformal ECO now."
Conformal ECO has had an unbelievable journey in helping our customers and
impacting their businesses immediately. So, back to the
green-friendy theme - think of all the power-hungry machines (from unnecessary
jobs) that you may not need to run because of ECO automation, in addition to
all the other savings (like not having to stay up late at night burning the
midnight oil on a nasty ECO). :)
