I don't know what you mean by "automatic rotate", but this shows the perils of using an unsupported Operating System.
Anyway, the best would be to move to IC615 which is a supported version of the tools - and it's not using Java for the waveform tool (the problem you're seeing is a Java bug by the looks of things, related to Java's support of openGL, at a guess). "mesa" is a system for openGL emulation...
If not, you could try doing this:
setenv CDS_WAVESCAN_OPENGL "-Dsun.java2d.opengl=False"
before starting virtuoso - this turns off OpenGL in Java when used from the waveform tool - there were some issues at times with how it behaved (not the problem you're seeing, but this might fix it too).
