License not found until reboot

I'm running Orcad 16.2 on a WIn7 x64 machine. The dongle is plugged into the back of the computer (not on a different network computer). Almost every day when I open Capture or Layout I get a license error. When I reboot, it works fine. What's the deal?

  • The license is actually dependent upon the License Manager Service, running in the background. If you remove the dongle the License Manager Service will detect that the dongle has been removed and shut the service down - since it won't be possible for it to issue licenses without the locking mechanism to decode the license. (The dongle will also be effectively removed from the machine if it hibernates) You can (re)start the License Manager Service without a reboot from Control Panel>Admin... Tools>Services, locate the service name in the list of services, the default service name is "Cadence License Manager", select the service name and then select "(Re)Start", either from the menu, or right-click.
