Subsequent to my previous blog about the Cadence Scholarship Program, I bring to you another inspiring story featuring one of our students - Himanshu Dwivedi
Himanshu lives in a one-room apartment in Delhi with his parents and his brother. His father works as a helper in an export house while his mother is a homemaker. In spite of their limited income, the family ensured that the brothers completed their schooling from a private school with a part-sponsorship. Himanshu scored well in his Class XII board exams and made his family proud. Passionate about software and coding, he aspired to pursue his B.Tech. This might have been a distant dream without the Cadence Scholarship Program, which came to his rescue. The selection committee of the Cadence Scholarship Program was so impressed that it opted to give complete support to Himanshu to pursue a B.Tech in Computer Science from Bhagwan Parshuram Institute of Technology, Rohini, Delhi. Himanshu’s father deeply appreciates the timely intervention of Cadence through its scholarship program, which truly understands the ethos of corporate social responsibility. Himanshu has more than lived up to the committee’s expectations. Currently in his sixth semester, he has been performing brilliantly by consistently scoring good marks. During the lockdown, he was also supported with sponsorship of an additional course called Data Structure and Web Development, which was recommended to him by his college to give him an edge in the placement process.
In true Cadence style, Himanshu’s mentor Mr. Prashant Agarwal has guided him every step of the way. Both mentor and mentee belong to the same academic background, giving Himanshu the perfect guide to turn to for all academic and career-related queries. Moreover, Mr. Agarwal has concentrated closely on honing his confidence levels and communication skills. With one year left to complete his course, Himanshu has already got a job as a software developer through campus placements. He will shortly be starting a job, one of a batch of six who were selected by the company from 200 applicants. Himanshu has already started an internship with them and will be joining them as a full-timer after completion of his course.
Himanshu says, "The Cadence Scholarship Program proved to be beneficial in terms of fee support, mentorship and guidance, which helped me find the correct career path".
Cadence, Concern India Foundation, and Joining Hands look forward to bringing many more such opportunities to deserving youngsters.
The Cadence Scholarship Program
At Cadence, giving back to society is of the important aspects of the work culture. We make a difference in the world by helping others through our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
The Cadence Scholarship Program is one of our flagship CSR programs of Cadence India, introduced five years ago. Many meritorious students from under-served sections of the society drop out of the education system after school because of the lack of finances. The Program addresses this issue by retaining such students in the academic cycle through funding and support.
The execution and administration of the program is managed by our NGO partners Concern India Foundation (CIF) and Joining Hands. The students are selected through a rigorous process of due diligence carried out by Joining Hands. Concern India Foundation oversees the students' performance throughout their coursework.
Over the last five years, it has benefited 132 students in the NCR region where it was started. After a successful pilot, it was expanded to Bangalore four years ago, and has benefited 71 students. In its third year, the Pune chapter was added and has helped 32 students till date. Cadence employees in each of these locations volunteer as mentors to help them with their studies, develop their confidence, and improve their communication and employability skills.
