I have been tasked with integrating Orcad with an ERP database. The ERP database is a SQL Server database and I have no problems writing to it. However I am clueless on where to go to read Orcad data. What type of database is Orcad stored in? Where is it stored? Is the data open source or would I need special licensing to read the data?

Yes, it would be very easy to read text or excel, however as I explained already, I do not want to go through the extra, not to mention, manual step of creating this data, I want to read the bom directly from the orcad database.
So can you actually answer any of my questions instead of trying to talk me into using text or excel?

Is this open data that I can easily connect to using ODBC for eaxample? You said "whose format is not public", which leads me to believe the answer is no.
Is it a propritary database? If so does Orcad sell a database connector?
Proprietary binary format
No, there is no "database connector". Cadence now recommends using the TCL / Tk coding interface for third parties who want to extract the design data, this capability is included since the 16.3 release. (This will consume a product license to run the code)
