how to attached 3d files (.step et c) into the cadence library file or how to attach 3d files to the compoenents so that we can review the placment 3d mode ?
Bala, Simplified Solutions Inc has an IDF_2_3D STEP model service. This gives the Electrical Engineer access to an MCAD tool.
As part of that service, they provide a FREE 3D PDF file. This might be what you can use.
They also sell a STEP Model that can be imported into any MCAD tool.
Finally, you also have the option to get a board Fabricated and a FREE 3D printed protoype of the assembly.
Currently there is no way to import / associate a step file into the Cadence library but you have a few options:-
1. If you are using Pro-E then you can create a ecad_hint.map that is a list of footprint and 3d model. Export and IDF from Allegro and when you import this into Pro-E it uses the hint map to use the actual 3D model.
2. Add multiple place_bound_top / bottom shapes to your footprints with the differing heights. These will be visible in the 3D viewer inside Allegro and you can review the placement in 3D. To add a height to a place_bound shape use Setup - Areas - Package Height in symbol editor and then add the min and max heights in the Options fold out menu.
