I have no idea how come it happen, I just want to open my project, it opens for some reason in top bar saying (Read Only), and I see no schematic sheets!
How come it be gone?
I'v browsed internet for that kind of problem, it was amazing to see that it is a "common" Cadence software problem for Capture schematic to be gone like that, and typical workaround is to add .dsn file by hand and it should work.
Well, I tried that, I click on Design Resources with right button, browse to .dsn file inside my project, and press Add, and nothing happens!
what has gone wrong?
This is really a nasty problem right in the middle of a project!!
I found some typical troubleshooting on this page:
But nothing worked out in my case! The project was completed, layed out, and sent to fab anyhow.
However, I cannot just open the schematics again! Can anyone at least tell me what could have gone wrong?
Or what caused this?
If this kind of crap can occur randomly I am not even sure if I want to use this Software for the next bigger project
In reply to Kabal:
Can you let us know the exact version of software you are running from Help - About ?
In reply to steve:
Allegro Design Entry CIS, 16.6-S007
OK - do you have a filename.dbk file in the project directory ? if so rename it to backup.dsn and then try and open that.
Ok well... that worked!
I had the following file: TEST_CHIP_RR_0.DBK
And my original DSN file was: test_chip_rr.dsn
I have renamed TEST_CHIP_RR_0.DBK to backup.dsn and opened it as design, there was a window to create new schematic, I just clicked OK, and now I see my schematic pages popped out.
So, any idea why would that happen?
Or this method you described should then cure the design again if this problem happens?
The DBK file is a backup file of the dsn that is created when you open the dsn file. Why your dsn file became corrupt ? Who knows - sometimes users close capture and yes to save to all and shut the PC down before capture has had chance to save all pages and the dsn file can become corrupt..... You need to allow a certain time when saving to remote network drives etc before closing PC's down.
There is an auto recovery command (Options - Preferences - Misc - Auto Recovery) that you can enable that will override the dbk file every 15 minutes (is the default) which is like a backup option.
Ok, thank you,
I enabled auto-recovery as well. Hopefully it all will make things more robust.
