If a via/route fanned pattern were to be built directly into a library part and that part/pattern is then placed on a board and some of that pattern is edited and/or deleted- does the modified pattern/via's revert back to what's in the library if the library part is updated on the board? If so- is there any way to suppress the updating of the fanned pattern?
Updating the modified symbol will revert back to the library part unless you have assigned the FIXED property to the symbol, cline and/or via and have not checked Ignore FIXED property. Hope this helps!
Thanks- what about deleted traces and vias- these can't be fixed- what happens with them when a reload is done?
Those will come back unless you assign the FIXED property to the symbol, but then the symbol won't update due to the FIXED property.
Is there any way to fix just the traces and vias in the symbol so everything else will update?
It seems that this is a serious problem if all the library parts on a board have to be updated frequently (as we do). Sounds as though in our case there is not a way do use library generated fanout patterns?
The method we use separates the fanout from the footprint. The footprint only contains the pins. The fanout is a clipboard that we paste on top of the footprint. This allows us to use different patterns for the same component, depending on the application. A refresh of the symbol does not impact the fanout, unless pins get moved. Charlie
