Hardware/Software for messing with field recordings?

I hope this is the right page for this post, if not please redirect me. I have very little knowledge of gear so I am lost and would really appreciate your help, I feel like the solution might be obvious but idk anything hehe...

I have been gathering field recordings and I want to process the audio and do weird things to them like add effects and distort the sound, change its length, reverse it, etc. I have been loading them into my daw and adding effects there but I don't love the workflow or staring at screens and would prefer a hardware device that has these capabilities within it. I like playing the keys, so if the device has keys or the capability to connect to a keyboard then that would be great. My goal is to make music with the sounds that come about. Again, I would prefer hardware suggestions, but I am open to any suggestions.

This forum is all about designing semiconductors (chips) so isn't really the place to discuss audio processing in general. I would suggest try a web search for "audio electronic projects" or perhaps look to one of the hobbyist sites like SparkFun who do lots of really nice hardware modules and example projects.

    Good luck :)
