Licensing Issue: Almost working, but not quite

I am attempting to configure and use OrCad X after an install. I am using a dongle key for authentication, and a locally run license server for license management. My company is just trying out this license while we decide if it's a good toolset for us, hence why we just got one dongle. We do NOT use cloud authentication or any other form of licensing. When the license server is not running, I cannot launch any of the applications in the OrCad X suite, as expected, but even with the Cadence License Server running, and the dongle key inserted, I still see "license expired" on the start page. The license is not expired (I checked the license file and it's not expiring until 2026), the dongle drivers are up-to-date, and I followed the instructions precisely on the Cadence website. Has anyone dealt with similar issues? I'm actually able to launch and interact with Capture CIS, but it's very clearly not happy about my license. Can't paste picture of the server status dialog box cuz the webpage keeps giving me an error when i try to, but it says "up" and the flexid matches the dongle flex id.

If the vendor daemon fails, the server may say UP but no licenses are actually available.

Yes .you can. But you have to have software with you. Cadence does not not support for downloading older version.

Silent install

I have an education license for OrCAD and would like to install it silently thought a command. I have try :

./OrCADXInstall.exe /s
./OrCADXInstall.exe /s /v"/qn"
./OrCADXInstall.exe !quiet=./silentinstall.ini (as per https://resources.pcb.cadence.com/blog/2025-client-orcad-x-installation )
./OrCADXInstall.exe /VERYSILENT

Can anyone help ? Or know where to find a more completed documentation for the installation ?

it's a OrCAD X Professional Plus activated with an academic account

I have tried the !quiet=./silentinstall.in because nothing worked, but I don't have a disk file, just an exe installer.

is this a SUL version of OrCAD that you have? Please confirm. !quiet=./silentinstall.ini is available with full enterprise solution of SPB 24.1 release in DISK1. Also, it works with setup.exe also in DISK1

We recently bought a seat of OrCadX, just the plain, no-frills version, but after installation there are lots of programs showing that we can't run due to our license.

Why did it install everything even though we only have access to a small fraction of it? What are we supposed to be able to see after installation?

Another issue I'm facing is that the software doesn't seem to have the ability to see network shares, only local directories unless I type the "\\" and the name of the network address.

Is this normal, or is the installation even more fouled up?

My company backs up several times a day, and requires things like the library, and workspaces to be on network locations, so it can back it up.

I see a library explorer but that isn't able to be used? How does one see what is in the library outside of being in the layout software? Is there any way?

This separate padstack setup is the hardest thing to get my head around, why aren't they part of the footprint? Are you able to have footprint libraries divided into folders so you don't need to weed through everything any time you want to configure a footprint?

I used to use OrCAD CIS in conjunction with a PADS layout package and it seemed exponentially easier doing that compared to this.Is there an easier way to do this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This repln.exe will be handled in future releases to avoid anti-virus S/Ws flagging them as malicious. For now, these exes can be safely whitelisted.

I figured out there is a setting that defaults the file access to be very limited and to not allow the use of Windows File Manager. After I changed that I was able to see the directories, but then I found out that Orcad doesn't like spaces in the directory names. It is 2025, right?

Why did the installation add all these shortcuts to the start menu when I can't use them?

To clarify, could you please provide the following details:

1. What version of OrCAD X you have installed on your system?
2. Which specific programs or features within OrCAD X that you are having trouble accessing or viewing?
3. Where exactly are you using the double backslash (\\) notation within the OrCAD X software?

Problem after installing Cadence OrCAD and Allegro 22.1

Hi there,

I am having trouble to installing the cadence 22.1. What steps I followed are,

1.Run “setup.exe” from extracted folder C:\Software\Base_SPB22.10.000_wint_1of3\Disk1 ( but my folder is in my desktop )

2. After some time ^setup needs the next Disk* menu pop ups and I select the Disk2 folder

3. There was no request for Disk3.

4. I have a company owned license, so I went to *Go to Start → All Programs → Cadence XXXX→ License Client Configuration Utility*

5. Specify the port license server

6. Click to the finish,

But if I open my Cadence 22.1, it shows as follows,

Symbols are absent,

If I click one the error massage said,

Kindly help me to solve it soon.

Cadence License Manager without full application

Is it possible to install the Cadence License Manager on a dedicated licensing server without installing the full application? We'd like to have a lightweight VM serve out the licensing and just point the workstations to it, but I've been told we have to do a full installation on the server. Is this correct?

Can we install the OrCAD X Trail in Linux PC

Error on installer "bad conversion" (-2048)

Not sure what's happening here. Error "bad conversion" (-2048) while trying to log into installer.

Tried on two separate systems.

I have admin rights.

I am not on a proxy network or VPN.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Some comments regarding Cadence (OrCAD/Allegro) Documentation...

Since this is not really a support request but merely some comments and since I know that

people from Cadence sometimes browses these forum I thaught that I should post some opinons here...

Having access to a multitude of documentations is excellent but why does Cadence use "Dark Mode" when creating the documentation?

I use this mode when working but for printing out a .PDF or part of it - the dark mode depletes all toner in my laser printer.

Dark mode is fine for displays - but NOT for printed material.

Why does Cadence use abbreviations when naming documentation? A few years ago I noticed the same

thing with Keysight (RF simulation software) and asked why they still used the 8.3 notation and suggested

using understandable (longer) file names. Keysight acknowledged it and changed their naming.

I therefore suggest that Cadence consider doing the same.
