Allegro X Capture CIS - Recent Threads

Using Capture CIS 25.1 using ORCAD X professional plus and my license is active and cloud access is on, but I am told I am Offline and when trying to use parts from the library I get an error message.

Hello,

I am having persistent trouble accessing the online/cloud features in OrCAD X Professional Plus, Capture CIS 25.1. This has been happening for approximately the last week or so. Capture reports that it is offline or not connected to the internet and displays error ORCAP-51017.

My computer has a working internet connection, but I cannot access the cloud component search and library resources I need for my work, including parts and footprints. This is currently interfering with my ability to work through my designs.

I use my own Cadence account, and my licenses are still available. Basic Capture functionality works: I tested opening a schematic, making a harmless edit, and saving it successfully.

So far, I have checked or tried the following:

Checked Firewall and ensured everything that was required passed.

Confirmed that the cloud-on-startup option is enabled.
Confirmed that I have access to an active license
Tried accessing the service from different locations, but the problem persisted.
Checked Windows network configuration and confirmed that the connection uses Wi-Fi.
Successfully resolved www.cadence.com through DNS.
Successfully tested a TCP connection to www.cadence.com
Sent an HTTPS request to the Cadence website and received HTTP 302, redirecting to its homepage.
Checked WinHTTP proxy settings, which report direct access with no proxy.
Checked Windows user proxy settings, which show the proxy disabled.
Checked for CDS_LIC_FILE and LM_LICENSE_FILE in PowerShell; neither appeared in that session.
Searched Windows services by Cadence/FlexNet names; no matching services were returned.
Backed up my important work, uninstalled the software, and reinstalled it. The reinstall did not resolve the issue.

I would like to get the online functionality working again without repeatedly reinstalling the software or unnecessarily removing valid licensing information.

Error 503 Service Unavailable When Searching For Components

When I go to;

Place -> Component -> Categories: SamacSys/Ultra Librarian/ or SnapMagic

I get a pop-up saying Error 503 Service Unavailable.

This is a new install of Allegro X Artist: Capture CIS 25.1.

I have an account for Ultra Librarian SnapMagic but I've never been able to sign in through the Place Component Section because I always get this error.

Why Are Power Pins Not Listed in the Power Pins Browser?

I have a few components in my design with pins defined as Power type. However, when I go to Edit > Browse > Power Pins, some of these pins are not listed.

What determines which Power pins appear in this browser?

Control Which Properties Are Checked by Update Part Status in OrCAD X Capture CIS

In OrCAD X Capture CIS, Update Part Status helps compare placed schematic components with their linked CIS database parts and identify property differences.

Run Tools > Update Part Status in Part Manager to check the components in your design.

The resulting status is displayed in Part Manager, helping you identify components that are not synchronized with the database.

But what if you do not want a particular property to be checked?

Navigate to:

Options > CIS Configuration > Setup > Part Database > Configuration

In the configuration table, use the Update Part Property column to control this behavior:

Enabled: The property is checked during Update Part Status.
Disabled: The property is excluded from the check.

You can also use Options > Update Part Status > Verify Parts Against (.OLB) Libraries to verify placed parts against their source libraries.

CIS Bill of Materials for a variant

When OrCAD generates a CIS Bill of Materials for a variant, all properties of Not Fitted components are replaced with "Do Not Stuff." I would like to display the original component properties while keeping the quantity of Not Fitted components at 0.

Hi,

I'm using OrCAD Capture CIS and have several custom properties populated on my schematic components. The properties are visible in the Property Editor for the placed parts, but when I generate a CIS Standard BOM, some of those columns appear blank in the Excel output.

Interestingly, the same information is available within the design, and when I generate a BOM using Tools > Bill of Materials, those property values are included correctly. This makes me wonder what criteria the CIS Standard BOM uses when determining which component properties to export.

Are there specific property settings, CIS mappings, or configuration options that control whether a property is included in the CIS BOM output?

Any insights would be appreciated.

Allegro X Capture will not launch again after closing the application

Dear Cadence Experts,

I frequently run into an issue where Allegro X Capture 25.1 fails to launch again after closing the software. My operating system is Windows 11 25H2, software build is OrCAD Capture 25.1 S050. This problem is not limited to S050; it also existed in previous releases.

I’ve just found the root‑cause of this issue. Sometimes after closing OrCAD Capture, its background process does not actually exit. Since OrCAD Capture does not allow multiple instances to run simultaneously, there is no response when you try to launch the software again. My screenshot shows that the OrCAD Capture process remains active in Windows Task Manager even after I close the application. Why the process keeps running after the GUI is closed will need further investigation by Cadence experts.

Is there a way to Replace Cache for all Components at once?

Hi all,

When sharing a design with another engineer, I understand that if the schematic libraries are located in a different location, the recipient can use Replace Cache from the Design Cache to synchronize the design with the new library location. This works well for a small number of parts, but on larger projects containing hundreds of components, updating the cache one part at a time can become very time-consuming.

Is there a method in OrCAD Capture to automatically update or refresh all cached parts in a design against the referenced libraries in a single operation?

Using Advanced Find Operations and Efficiently Search for Objects in OrCAD X Capture CIS

In a schematic design, locating specific components and identifying properties across multiple objects can be challenging, especially in large designs.

Starting with OrCAD X Capture CIS 25.1, the Find and Replace feature has been enhanced to support advanced search operations, allowing you to locate schematic objects using property-based filters and display attributes.

1. Open your schematic design in OrCAD X Capture CIS 25.1.

2. Choose Edit > Replace.

3. Select the required object type (Parts, Pins, H-Pins, and so on).

4.Enter a search pattern (for example, R* to find all resistors) and click Find.

The matching objects are displayed in the Find Results window, enabling quick navigation to the selected objects.

1. To further refine the search, click the + icon in the Find Properties section and add a new property criterion.

2. Select the desired property from the drop-down list. For example, choose Tolerance.

3. Specify the required property value, such as 5%.

4. Click Highlight and then select Find.

The search returns all resistors with a Tolerance value of 5%, and the corresponding symbols are highlighted directly in the schematic.

The enhanced Find and Replace functionality helps you quickly locate objects, perform property-based searches, validate design data, and efficiently navigate large schematics with greater precision.

Viewing datasheets in orcad cip

I have an orcad cip database set up on my local machine using microsoft sql server and i have a collection of datasheets if i use the web address for the datasheets i am able to view the datasheet in the orcad cip database and by using the app from the parallel systems website i can view it in the capture schematic canvas by clicking the appropriate menu.

Unfortunately sometimes when i am on the road i dont have access to the internet so i am unable to view the datasheets so i changed the web address of the datasheet to an address on my local machine such as this C:\Cadence\CIP-E\Datasheets\Yageo\RC0402FR-073KL.pdf i can now see them in the capture schematic canvass and cis but i cant view them in cip.

What do i have to do to view them in both cip and capture and cis

Why Are Identical Non-Database Parts Listed Separately in CIS BOM?

In Capture, while generating a CIS BOM, I noticed that three resistor components placed from a schematic library (not linked to the CIS database) are listed as separate BOM entries even though they all have the same Value of 4.7k. I expected them to be combined into a single line item with the quantity updated accordingly. How does Capture determine whether non-database components are grouped together in a BOM, and is there a way to generate a compressed BOM for such parts?

Using alternate schematic symbols

Hi all. I want to replace a schematic symbol on schematic sheet with an alternate schematic symbol that is already assigned to the part. I would think a 'RMB > alternate schematic symbol' would be available, but I don't see anything like that. So how does one choose the alternate schematic symbol to place on a schematic sheet? Again, the alternate schematic symbol is already assigned to the part; I can view it in CIP under the part number, I just can't figure out how to place the alternate on a schematic. I'm looking for some advice on BOM management and revision control.

I use a multi-sheet Excel file, where each worksheet represents a different variant in the CIS. For every modification, I update the revision and date of the corresponding worksheet.

We are talking about BOMs with approximately 1,500 components. Once the BOM has been exported from the CIS, what checks do you typically perform?

Is there a tool available that can compare two BOMs and provide a detailed report of the differences?

Hierarchical Design Challenge: New Ports Added!

A Buck Converter is implemented as a hierarchical block in the parent schematic.

Initially, the child schematic contained only Vin, Vout, and PWM ports, and the H-Block was already placed and connected.

Later, the design was expanded and two new ports were added to the child schematic: PGOOD and Fault

How would you update the existing H-Block in the parent schematic so the new ports become available?

A. Delete and recreate the H-Block
B. Manually add and rename hierarchical pins
C. Synchronize Up the Hierarchical Block

What do ^ and ! mean in Intersheet References? Can they be removed?

I noticed that OrCAD Capture adds ^ and ! symbols in Intersheet References by default. I assume they indicate whether the referenced page is above or below the current page, but I'm not sure what their exact purpose is.

Can someone explain what these symbols mean? Also, is there a way to remove them if they're not needed? Has anyone customized this behavior in their designs?

25.1 HF005 - PDF Export/Printing in BW?

Greetings forum,

My desire is to print schematics in BW and have them printed with thinnest possible wire widths.

For this, I have previously used CutePDF as print engine and Foxit PDF reader to view and from there print pages that I wanted.

Earlier, Cadence seemed to use GhostScript engine for PDF generation. Now with 25.1 HF005 it seems that Cadence have

written its own interface or embedded the GhostScript into the software. Anyway, there are no PDF options for quality in that

interface.

Now the print outs if using print to PDF are either in color with thick wires or when using Export->PDF that the wires are BW but thick.

I have looked around the the print setup menus for OrCADPS or CutePDF (or any other output format that is to direct

prints to .PDF.) Regardless of me defining BW, I cannot get what I want.

Having multiple versions of Cadence SPB in my computer, Windows also asks me if it should remove some of the OrCADPS

relating to older versions (than 25.1) something that I do not dare to even consider, since I accidentally removed them

earlier and it was not that easy to recreate them. This however perhaps a question that should be directed to the software build team.

If there are any PDF setting that controls the generated width of graphic lines, please let me know.

Understanding the Auto Backup Feature in OrCAD Capture CIS

OrCAD Capture CIS provides an Auto Backup (Multi-level Backup) feature that helps protect users from losing unsaved design changes. This feature automatically creates design backup files when specific conditions are met, providing an additional safety net in the event of application crashes, system failures, or other unexpected interruptions.

The Multi-level Backup Settings dialog box can be accessed by selecting Options → Auto Backup from the main menu.

A backup is generated when below conditions are satisfied:

The design has been modified.
The design has not been manually saved within the configured backup interval.

Example

If the backup interval is set to 10 minutes:

A user modifies the design at 10:00 AM.
If the design is manually saved before 10:10 AM, no .DBK backup file is created.
If the design remains unsaved for 10 minutes after the modification, Capture automatically creates a .DBK (Design Backup) file in the configured backup directory.

The Auto Backup (Multi-level Backup) feature acts as a safety mechanism to protect users from losing unsaved design changes.

Browsable CIS link always opens in Microsoft Edge

Hi all,

I am using Capture CIS and have configured a property as Browsable, allowing users to click a link directly from CIS Explorer and open the associated document or webpage.
The functionality works as expected, but whenever I click the link, it always opens in Microsoft Edge. On my system, I would prefer these links to open in Google Chrome instead.

I checked the CIS configuration but could not find any setting that allows me to specify which browser should be used for browsable links.

Is it possible to configure CIS to launch browsable links using a specific browser such as Chrome?
