I am unable to locate the Allegro Free Physical Viewer 16.6 setup files for download. I need this version to access and review older design files. Could you please share the setup file with me?

Support for Virtual Machines by Cadence License Manager

Cadence has been supporting virtual machines to serve as Cadence License servers for many years now. You need to work with your Cadence Account Manager and identify a VM system, whether it is on-premises or in the cloud.

Ensure that you are using supported operating systems like Windows 10/11/2019/2022 and Linux RHEL 8.4/9 and SUSE 15. Cadence supports only server VMs such as VMware ESX, Citrix XEN, and so on for local deployments. For cloud deployments, Cadence supports Amazon EC2 or Google Compute Engine. Desktop VMs such as Virtual Box, Parallels, VMware desktop, etc. are not supported.

Use mfp as per its help output:

mfp /?

mfp 24.01-s001

Run mfp with no options for non-cloud platforms.

Cloud options available:

-cl aws: Generate mfp files for the Amazon EC2 platform

-cl gce: Generate mfp files for the Google Compute Engine platform

-cl azure: Generate mfp files for the Microsoft Azure platform

Please note that the command will generate two files that you need to share with your Cadence Account Manager to generate the license file.

You also need to run ./lmutil lmhostid -ETHER on Linux and lmutil.exe lmhostid -ETHER on Windows to extract the correct hostid ( Network card’s physical address). Please note that hostid does not mean the output of the hostid command on Linux.

At the time of writing this post, Windows 2025 server is not supported.

While we've had reports of users successfully running Cadence License Manager on other operating systems like Rocky Linux, Ubuntu, or CentOS, we've also seen some compatibility issues. For example, the vendor daemon cdslmd may fail after a checkout on CentOS 7 or Rocky 9.

Specifically, is AlmaLinux currently supported, and is an installation guide available for it?

Cadence PCB Viewer silent install commands

Hi there,

looking to deploy PCB Viewer via Intune. The installation command im using to install when testing locally is "CadencePCBViewers.exe -silent", the uninstall command i'm using is CadencePCBViewers.exe -remove.

These both work when running locally however it fails to install when deploying it via Intune.

Would you be able to provide me assistance please?

Can anyone send me the installation guide of ORCAD 24.1 Software.

Updating License Manager to 22.01.0004

In Download Manager I see the License Manager has a new version (22.01.0004), but when I try to update it then it seems to get stuck after the initial installer with the green bar appears. It looks like the installer window is hidden, but try as I might I can't seem to get it to appear so I can run the install. All the happens is the installer gets stuck and I have to use Task Manager to kill it.

Has anyone else seen this? Is there a way round this?

Opening an old MAX file with Orcad 16.2

Hi, I need to make a couple of little modifications on an old complex project (about 200 components, 10 layers), created with Layout 16.2 on a Windows 7 machine (deceased a year ago, RIP).

I did not want to start again from scratch, so I tried to import the MAX file on PCB 22.1 using the Translate option, but it did not worked for some invalid character in the design name (as written also in the help file).

So, I tried to install the 16.2 version on another Win7 PC; something went wrong, because Capture can be opened (I can see the schematic of that project), but Layout has a problem (see fibure below). I did not find a solution online (apart of a couple of comments on a chinese forum). Any help is appreciated. For completeness, I work with a dongle key on the PC for the license.

How to run Cadence switch release without admin rights

Hi everyone,

I have a question about Cadence switch release.
There are 3 versions (16.6; 17.2 and 17.4) in our PCB computers. To make cadence switch release run right, I need add domain user into local admin group.

However, our IT policy does not allow domain user has admin permission, so do we have any method to run cadence switch release without run as administrator.

CadencePCBViewers.exe: Installer changed $HOME so "git" does not work. How to repair?

Hello,

I installed "CadencePCBViewers.exe" on my Windows 10 PC.

On this PC, I'm also using Git for Windows.

However, CadencePCBViewers installer broke my Git installation.

Obviously, CadencePCBViewers installer changed my $HOME variable to point to "HOME=C:\SPB_Data".

I don't know why Cadence installer does that and I also think it's "rude behaviour" from an installer to even touch my $HOME variable.

How do I fix this?

Download Manager & Unified CIS (SamacSys) password bug

hello,

i had a real complex password (length: 27) which was accepted by the account creation.

i could login via web without any issue, but i got every time error if i try the download manager program or the Unified CIS (place part in capture) see attached screenshot.

i reinstall orcad, submit a ticket (@ our orcad dealer), but nothing worked.

after i change my password, it is now a lot simpler (length: 14) everything works as accepted.

-> i think it is a bug

I am reviewing someone else's board design, and don't normally use Cadence myself, so I was going to download the free viewer.

The website says "fill out this form" but no form shows up.

I have an account and am logged in, and I tried on both Chrome and Edge.
