I am unable to locate the Allegro Free Physical Viewer 16.6 setup files for download. I need this version to access and review older design files. Could you please share the setup file with me?

Support for Virtual Machines by Cadence License Manager

Cadence has been supporting virtual machines to serve as Cadence License servers for many years now. You need to work with your Cadence Account Manager and identify a VM system, whether it is on-premises or in the cloud.

Ensure that you are using supported operating systems like Windows 10/11/2019/2022 and Linux RHEL 8.4/9 and SUSE 15. Cadence supports only server VMs such as VMware ESX, Citrix XEN, and so on for local deployments. For cloud deployments, Cadence supports Amazon EC2 or Google Compute Engine. Desktop VMs such as Virtual Box, Parallels, VMware desktop, etc. are not supported.

Use mfp as per its help output:

mfp /?

mfp 24.01-s001

Run mfp with no options for non-cloud platforms.

Cloud options available:

-cl aws: Generate mfp files for the Amazon EC2 platform

-cl gce: Generate mfp files for the Google Compute Engine platform

-cl azure: Generate mfp files for the Microsoft Azure platform

Please note that the command will generate two files that you need to share with your Cadence Account Manager to generate the license file.

You also need to run ./lmutil lmhostid -ETHER on Linux and lmutil.exe lmhostid -ETHER on Windows to extract the correct hostid ( Network card’s physical address). Please note that hostid does not mean the output of the hostid command on Linux.

At the time of writing this post, Windows 2025 server is not supported.

* WINDOWS: Windows 11 (64-bit Professional or Enterprise), Windows 10 (64-bit Professional or Enterprise), Windows Server 2019 Standard Edition (64-bit), Windows Server 2022 Standard Edition (64-bit)

While we've had reports of users successfully running Cadence License Manager on other operating systems like Rocky Linux, Ubuntu, or CentOS, we've also seen some compatibility issues. For example, the vendor daemon cdslmd may fail after a checkout on CentOS 7 or Rocky 9.

We would like to confirm the officially supported Linux operating systems for Cadence tools.
Specifically, is AlmaLinux currently supported, and is an installation guide available for it?

Could you please provide the list of Linux distributions and versions officially supported by Cadence?

You need to login to ask.cadence.com and access this following link:

Cadence Platform Support Plan 2022.x-2025.x

But Alma Linux is not supported by any Cadence release.

I am reviewing someone else's board design, and don't normally use Cadence myself, so I was going to download the free viewer.

The website says "fill out this form" but no form shows up.

I have an account and am logged in, and I tried on both Chrome and Edge.

Hi there,

The error i get is:

The file name - *C:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Roaming\Cadence\PCBViewerinstall\silentinstall-FV.ini" was not found. Aborting the installation.

I believe the issue is that the app is looking for temp files which would only appear in the appdata directory for the local user when running as admin whereas when deployed via intune the installation is ran in the system context and as such would not copy any files to the users app data directory.

Hi there,

looking to deploy PCB Viewer via Intune. The installation command im using to install when testing locally is "CadencePCBViewers.exe -silent", the uninstall command i'm using is CadencePCBViewers.exe -remove.

These both work when running locally however it fails to install when deploying it via Intune.

Would you be able to provide me assistance please?

I have not used intune. Can you give me all the messages that you get while trying to work on Intune. Cadence does not support intune so there is no way to test it.

Tested deployment with Microsoft Intune and guess what it works !!
Installation command line: PCBEditorViewer.exe -TARGETDIR=C:\Cadence\PCBEditorViewer_24.1 -silent
Uninstallation command line: PCBEditorViewer.exe -uninst

Hello, Thank you for your reply. I did some tests and here are the results...

1. The application was already installed on my device, ran PCBEditorViewer.exe -uninst using CMD as admin, it did remove the application. However, it was still showing in my control panel - add and remove programs without an icon. I had to manually remove it from there.

2. Application was installed again manually by clicking PCBEditorViewer.exe, then ran PCBEditorViewer.exe -uninst in CMD, gives me an error and quits on me. Some error about client or server. I was not able to replicate that error again.

3. Seems that if you install using CMD you can only uninstall using CMD, if you installed manually then you cannot uninstall using CMD, gives an error. I re installed the application using CMD command -silent, it got installed. Then used the -uninst command it got removed.

4. When I installed and uninstalled the 2nd time using CMD, the application was no where to be found in my start menu, nor in add and remove programs. However the application folder existed and run from the application folder.

4. I will do a test deploy using Microsoft Intune and share the results soon. Maybe that workflow behavior might be little different.

I think it is going to take a while.

I wonder if this will help. I was testing with other arguments.

PCBEditorViewer.exe /uninst

What it will do (or what it did on my system) was remove the entry of the application from the registry but leaves the directory (hierarchy intact) and the menus as well, perhaps using this command and then a command to delete the directory structure may work for you now? For the time being.

Correct, this is not working for uninstallation c:\cadence\CadencePCBViewers.exe -remove

When you run this command, it actually re-installed the application again.

The remove command does not work, instead of removing it reinstalls the application back again.

Download the CadencePCBViewers.exe installer from the following location:

www.cadence.com/.../allegro-downloads-start.html

After downloading the installer, follow these steps:

1. Move the CadencePCBViewers.exe to a directory. In this case CadencePCBViewers.exe was moved to C:\Cadence directory.

2. Open Windows Command Prompt from the location of the installer.

3. Enter the following command to start the silent installation:

CadencePCBViewers.exe -silent -TARGETDIR=<Installation directory>

For example: c:\cadence\CadencePCBViewers.exe -silent -TARGETDIR=c:\cadence\CadencePCBViewerInstall

Note: If you have the SPB23.1 software installed, the silent installation of Allegro Free Physical Viewer will not proceed.

To Silently uninstall enter the follow command:

CadencePCBViewers.exe -remove

For example: c:\cadence\CadencePCBViewers.exe -remove
