In principle in fact, the S-N curve should not really go above 2*UTS. Some fatigue codes even include a hard limit to account for static failure of sort when the limit is exceeded. In truth I'm not convinced that would be a better approach for a number of reasons: - The S-N method is not intended to be used, or to be accurate, for low cycle fatigue, so any results in the low cycle regime obtained with the S-N method should be looked with some caution. - Reporting an instant failure might be just as incorrect. What happens at high stress regime is not really necessarily a failure as cyclic deformation might still be possible when stress concentrations are at stake and with ductile materials. - In the frequency domain we use a probabilistic approach to cycling and some damage can be computed by fractions of a cycle at very high stress. The S-N curve in the frequency domain leads to better results without such low cycle limit discontinuity. It's worth mentioning that in CAEfatigue we allow for bilinear curves to be above 2*UTS at low cycles the reasons I just mentioned. Customer can still provide the S-N curves by different means, for example by points, so to induce a different low cycle fatigue logic for S-N, but for the reason I exposed above, you might not necessarily get a better result.

Forum Post: RE: Using decks that did work I now get a fatigue failure message. You need to have active CAEfatigue Time license to run this job. Otherwise it should run fine. It goes smooth on my computer. Can you check if your CAEfatigue licenses are expired or out of reach ?
