This works very well. I am trying to explore expanding the frequency range with restarts to save time. I typically solve modes to frequency range based on the analysis type, low frequency sine, structure borne vibrations and vibroacoustic. Each one requiring higher cut-offs. I recently tried solving a model 500 Hz and then restarting the 103 to add modes up to 2500 Hz. I did this by restarting and changing the METHOD and EIGRL cards in the restart. From what I can tell...the entire frequency range was solved again. Is there a way for Nastran to append to the existing in the DBALL and not resolve modes? Can it be done in two (or more) separate jobs and then merged?

Forum Post: RE: Damping on external superelements in analysis run

If you do not include a damping matrix during the reduction run, you cannot add it later during the assembly run. The OP4 file will only contain the matrices that were requested during the reduction. To include a structural damping matrix (K4), you must specify it during the reduction run using the appropriate way. All damping is cumulative in MSC Nastran. So, for example, if modal damping is defined on a superelement’s component modes and modal damping is defined on the residual structure modes, the damping will be combined and the superelement may unintentionally be overdamped.

Forum Post: Damping on external superelements in analysis run

Hi everyone, I have two superelements condensed with the Craig-Bampton technique without defining a damping matrix. The files are in .op4, .pch and .asm format. I need to run a modal frequency response analysis with a main structure to which I attach the two external superelements. As I said, the superelements do not have any damping matrix defined in the op4 files, but in the analysis I would need to apply a damping loss factor of 6% on one superelement and 8% on the other one, on top of this I need to apply a global structural damping acting on the residual structure that I can easily apply with PARAM,G, or similar parameters. So my question is, is there a way when importing external superelements for dynamic analysis to define a structural damping matrix for each superelement, when no damping matrix was defined during condensation run? Thanks!

Forum Post: RE: How I output model with 9 digits numbering from ANSA for Nastran SOL 103

Hi Nikhil, You can export the Nastran file in long format from ANSA using the steps below: File --> Output --> Nastran --> Save --> Enable Long for Format selection --> OK But this may not resolve the issue because, with the IFPSTAR parameter enabled, Nastran can technically handle IDs up to 214,748,364. With IFPSTAR off, IDs up to 10 digits may be accepted. However, IDs above 99,999,999 may cause issues with internal ID generation, output codes, and compatibility with other software. You might need to Turn off the IFPSTAR by adding the line NASTRAN IFPSTAR=NO at the very beginning of your input file. You can do it also by adding IFPSTAR=NO in the optional keywords before running. Common Causes The upstream superelement's database (DBSET) is not attached : The assembly run cannot find the required matrices because the database containing the reduced superelement is not available. The upstream superelement did not complete reduction in a previous run : If the reduction (creation) of the superelement was not completed successfully, the required matrices will not exist. Missing K2GG and M2GG entries in Case Control : For external superelements created via DMIGPCH, you must include K2GG=KAAX and M2GG=MAAX in the Case Control section. If these are missing, the error will occur for each external superelement being attached. Ensure the upstream superelement is properly reduced : Rerun the reduction of the upstream superelement and verify that it completes without errors. Attach the correct database : Make sure the DBSET and/or DBLOCATE'd database containing the upstream superelement matrix is attached in your assembly run. Include K2GG and M2GG in Case Control : For DMIGPCH-based external superelements, add the following lines above the subcase level in your Case Control section: K2GG=KAAX M2GG=MAAX SUBCASE 1 METHOD = 1 This ensures the required matrices are available for all superelements and the residual structure. If the residual structure does not have DMIG entries, a warning may appear, but it can be ignored if not needed. Check file inclusion order : When including external superelement files, ensure that the .asm (assembly) file is included before the .pch (punch) file in the main bulk data section. Example Correction K2GG=KAAX M2GG=MAAX SUBCASE 1 METHOD = 1 BEGIN BULK INCLUDE 'SE10.asm' INCLUDE 'SE10.pch' ENDDATA

Forum Post: RE: No OP2 stress results with SOL 101 and PCOMPLS

Please try the HDF5 output.
