System Analysis Knowledge Bytes - A new way to tackle System-Level Power Integrity and PDN analysis

The System Analysis Knowledge Bytes blog series explores the capabilities and potential of the System Analysis tools offered by Cadence. In addition to providing insight into the useful features and enhancements in this area, this series aims to broadcast the views of different bloggers and experts, who share their knowledge and experience on all things related to System Analysis.

No one wants to be stuck fixing issues late in the design cycle. Designs are getting too complex and schedules too short to wait until the end for analysis. Operating early in the design cycle allows for “what if” scenario exploration, sets more accurate design constraints, and reduces design iterations.

Cadences next-generation Sigrity solutions are redefining SI and PI analysis with a performance increase of up to 10X while maintaining the trusted accuracy for which Sigrity tools are known.

Cadence releases SIGRITY/SYSANLS 2024.0 to equip designers with redefining Signal and Power Integrity helping deliver accurate SI/PI Analysis with a Comprehensive Solution to meet Compressed Schedules of High-Speed Electronic Products. Sigrity 2024.0 also provides a user experience that streamlines setup time for detailed system-level SI/PI analysis by transitioning seamlessly across different analysis workflow.

Sigrity tools read and write directly to the Allegro PCB and IC package design database for fast and accurate integration of results. It provides a SPICE-based simulator and embedded field solvers for extraction of 2D and 3D structures. It supports transistor-level and behavioral I/O modeling, including power-aware simulation using IBIS models. Parallel bus and serial channel architecture can be explored pre-layout to compare alternatives, or post-layout for a comprehensive analysis of all associated signals.

CDNLive! is a global series of technical conferences that bring together electronics designers and industry experts for education and inspiration. The Silicon Valley event will be held on October 1-2, 2009 at the Santa Clara Marriott.

A major focus of this year’s proceedings will be technical presentations from Cadence® technology users. Presenting a paper is an excellent opportunity to share your ideas and methodologies for maximizing productivity with Cadence solutions.

The success of CDNLive! hinges on your participation—be part of the excitement and present a paper! If you submit your abstract by the Friday, May 1 deadline, you will be entered into a drawing for a Flip Video Camcorder (one per conference track). The CDNLive! Steering Committee will review all submissions and notify you of acceptance by June 22.

On behalf of the EPE Conference Committee we sincerely invite you to come to EPE 2009, the 13th International European Power Electronics Conference and Exhibition, to be held in September 2009 in Barcelona. Following the successful previous conferences in Brussels, Grenoble, Aachen, Florence, Brighton, Seville, Trondheim, Lausanne, Graz, Toulouse, Dresden and Aalborg, this time EPE 2009 will take place in Barcelona, dynamic and representative town of the Mediterranean area.

Europe is a world leader in the field of Power Electronics with well known research and industrial companies and many large academic laboratories in all main European countries. In the past twenty six years, the EPE Conference has grown to become the largest in this field and it draws regularly the foremost technical contributors from industry and academia worldwide.

Power Electronics, as an enabling technology is becoming more and more important and is the basis for many industrial processes, for the rational use of the energy, for new technologies in individual and mass transportation, areas that are rapidly growing requiring new concepts in order to fulfil cost, reliability, miniaturization as well as environmental requirements. The improvements of Power Semiconductor together with new advanced topologies and embedded systems are pushing Power Electronics towards high switching frequency and smaller, cheaper, and more efficient realisations, opening possibilities for new applications. Due to the new rules published by the EC on the electrical energy production, transport and distribution, and also to the technical problems arising from the interconnection of different kinds of distributed energy production systems, high precision and reliable controllers are needed. Along these ideas, the EPE 2009 will have special tailored sessions of top industrial expert presentations and round table meetings to discuss in depth and focus on future developments in semiconductors, materials and components, topologies and embedded systems. The Conference will complement the regular program with new or emerging topics of particular interest to the power electronics systems community that may also cut across and beyond disciplines traditionally represented.

One of the purposes of this Conference is to provide a possibility to present and discuss about developments in the field of Power Electronics with attendees coming from all over the world. The Conference is a show window, where up-to-date research activities and products are presented. A characteristic trend for the last EPE Conferences has been the increasingly large industrial participation, enhancing exchanges between academia and industry.

The new Cadence Community is reorganized and full of features that will enable users to connect and collaborate more then ever. See below for details.

Site Organization
You'll notice that Community, as well as Products & Solutions, are organized by user groups such as system design, verification, logic design, custom IC design, manufacturability, etc. This better matches how users think about and tackle design tasks and technology challenges, and so creates a more effective alignment of content. Within each of 9 communities, there are blogs, forums, resources, RSS feeds, and polls,

Community Membership
The community is open to all visitors, but registration enables user-contributed content and social networking features. Your Cadence.com account will also provide you with single sign-on access that makes it fast and easy to sign-up for webinars and other events, enroll in training, and participate in other Cadence offerings. Users with existing logins (e.g. for SourceLink) can leverage those credentials to create a Cadence.com account.
New Blogs
New in the community are our group blogs, where you can hear from Cadence technologists and participate in the topics through your comments. Blogs are also exposed throughout the site in other sections, and all blogs are available from the blogs landing page. Browsing by tag and RSS feeds are available as well.

Updated Forums
Under the guidance of cdnusers forum moderators, we have consolidated the 20+ technology forums on cdnusers.org down to 11 on the new site. Posts have been brought over so you can leverage that posting history. The big news in forums is that they are fully bi-directionally email enabled. Each forum has an email address (e.g. pcb_forum@cadence.com). This means that you can post and reply to the forums via email, using the email account used for your registration. I'll say that again -- you can post and reply to the forums via email! We think this is a huge new feature that makes forum interaction as convenient as it can possibly be. To subscribe to the forums, after logging in you will see a 'Forum subscriptions' button on the right side. There you can toggle your subscription on/off. The default state is off.

The forums also support thread ratings, post tagging, inline images, and file attachments.

Social networking
While blogs and forums are great to get people connected through user-contributed content, we knew that we could do more than this. So the new community gives you more than just a screen name. Check out this list of features that lets you find and connect with other members:

You get a Member Profile. Can complete as much as you want to share with your fellow members. Example: http://www.cadence.com/community/members/BobD.aspx
You can browse and search the member list.
You can find posts by other members.
You can add Friends and access your Friends list.
You can private message other members, through the site or via non-disclosed email.

Across the site we have have also implemented sharing and social bookmarking features. You will find on the upper right on all pages four small tool icons taking you to these features.

Welcome to all visitors and members from our cdnusers.org user community.

We're in the final steps of transitioning into the new home for Cadence users, and we're happy to have you join us and become active members in our new location. Here's the schedule for the final steps in the transition:

6/20, 7/17 cdnusers subscribers received email notification about changes.
7/4 cdnusers new registrations were disabled.
7/30-31 cdnusers forums will become read only.
8/4 cdnusers login will be disabled
8/4 cdnusers will be redirected to www.cadence.com/community

We recognize that many people have used cdnusers.org for the past 2 years, and that change is not always easy. However, we expect the new community will thrive even more than the old, with the benefits of additional content, additional features and functions, and of course with your partcipation.
