Improved Efficiency: Longhorn Racing Transformed Analysis with Cadence Tools

10 Mar 2026 • 2 minute read

Longhorn Racing, a cooperative student organization comprised of three Collegiate Design Series Teams that provide its members with the opportunity to explore different engineering fields and grow their tangible skills, is experiencing a significant shift in how they approach their engineering workflows. With professional-grade Cadence software tools, they are making enhancements to their analysis process. Let's hear from the team about how they've incorporated Cadence into their flow.

Enhanced Integration for Seamless Workflows

One of the standout features of Cadence's software is the deep level of integration offered across different workflows. Our team previously faced challenges when creating shell meshes for our tube frame due to the cumbersome interface of other industry tools. Many aspects, like shell types and variable mesh quality criteria, were hidden within a complex user interface. With Cadence, however, these finer details become more accessible, enabling our engineers to work more efficiently and intuitively.

A Game Changer: The Connection Manager

Another remarkable feature that has truly impressed our team is the Connection Manager in the ANSA preprocessor. Each time we introduce our structural engineers to this tool, we see their reactions of amazement at how straightforward defining and managing connections becomes. Particularly for multi-bolt patterns and structural welds, the specialized functionality provided by Cadence has proven to be indispensable. It's a significant leap forward in simplifying what can often be a complicated process.

Streamlined Post-Processing Interfaces

Post-processing has often been a bottleneck in our analysis cycles, primarily because other software tools are tightly coupled with solvers and producing full result sets. Sharing results among team members has historically been time-consuming and bandwidth-intensive, but Cadence disrupts this outdated model, allowing us to share only relevant results in standalone and well-compressed formats. This change has led to a dramatic increase in our team's innovation rate through streamlined analysis.

Visible Improvements

As we began to incorporate Cadence's suite of tools throughout our design cycle this year, we quickly noticed improvements in analysis speed and team collaboration. Although we have only just scratched the surface of what Cadence offers, the benefits are already clear.

As we move forward, the Longhorn Racing team is excited about the potential of further integrating Cadence's workflows into our electronics, modeling, and aerodynamics teams. The enhancements we've seen so far have ignited our passion for innovation and excellence, pushing us to explore the full capabilities of Cadence's tools.

We hope to continue to support this team and these students in creating innovative solutions and gaining the practical experience they need to thrive in their future careers.
