New Platform for CAE Multiphysics Innovation and Talent Development

5 Oct 2026 • 4 minute read

As new energy vehicles, intelligent connected vehicles, and artificial intelligence technologies continue to advance rapidly, the automotive industry is accelerating toward a more digitalized, intelligent, and system-oriented future. Closer collaboration between academia and industry is creating new opportunities for cutting-edge innovation and the cultivation of highly skilled talent.

In September 2026, Michael Shih, Corporate Vice President of Sales for Asia Pacific and Japan, Xiaoyu Wang, Vice President and General Manager for China and Southeast Asia, and Min Chen, Vice President and General Manager of Technical Field Operations for Asia Pacific, led a Cadence delegation to Jilin University. The visit further strengthened collaboration in automotive engineering, CAE Multiphysics, electronic design automation (EDA), and artificial intelligence (AI). The visit was focused on where our collaborations can expand and the exciting unveiling of the Jilin University–Cadence CAE Multiphysics Joint Laboratory. Zhang Guoxing, Vice President of Jilin University, and the Cadence management team reviewed the achievements of the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Joint Laboratory over the past three years and engaged in in-depth discussions on talent development, research innovation, and technology applications in the context of the automotive industry's digital transformation.

As automotive engineering increasingly converges with electronics, software, and AI technologies, closer collaboration between universities and industry will accelerate the integration of advanced technologies into research and education while cultivating more innovative, practice-oriented engineering talent for the future.

Expanding Collaboration and Unveiling the Upgraded Joint Lab

Headlining the engagement was the unveiling ceremony for the Jilin University–Cadence CAE Multiphysics Joint Laboratory, officiated by Zhu Bing, Dean of the School of Automotive Engineering, Huang Zhonghua, Party Secretary of the School of Automotive Engineering, Michael Shih, and Xiaoyu Wang.

“Cadence is committed to driving technological innovation through its industry-leading Intelligent System Design and Analysis solutions while actively supporting university education and research. Jilin University possesses strong academic capabilities in automotive engineering and an outstanding track record in talent development. We look forward to further deepening our collaboration through the upgraded CAE Multiphysics Joint Laboratory, jointly cultivating innovative talent for future industries and advancing the development and application of key technologies in the automotive and electronics sectors.” —Michael Shih, Corporate Vice President of Sales for Asia Pacific and Japan at Cadence

Building upon the successful foundation of the CFD Joint Laboratory, the upgraded CAE Multiphysics Joint Laboratory will broaden its scope from fluid simulation to system simulation, multiphysics analysis, and intelligent vehicle development. The collaboration will also explore new opportunities to bring advanced CAE multiphysics technologies into collaborative research projects and teaching, to promote high-level talent development and more advanced innovation in the automotive and electronics industries.

“The School of Automotive Engineering and Cadence has established a solid foundation for collaboration. We hope to leverage the upgraded CAE Multiphysics Joint Laboratory to further strengthen cooperation in research innovation, talent development, and technology commercialization, achieving resource sharing, complementary strengths, and collaborative growth.” —Zhu Bing, Dean of the School of Automotive Engineering at Jilin University

Deepening Technical Exchanges and Exploring Future Opportunities

The two organizations exchanged perspectives on industry-academic collaboration, technology innovation, and talent development, sharing their latest achievements and future directions. Cadence highlighted its advances in intelligent system design, computational fluid dynamics, CAE Multiphysics, and AI-driven design, as well as the broad application of these technologies in the automotive industry. Representatives from the School of Automotive Engineering introduced the university’s progress and provided updates around education and curriculum collaboration, research project development, industry partnerships and their impact on the joint laboratory initiative, and highlights on talent development with Cadence.

Faculty members and leaders from the Schools of Electronic Science and Engineering and Communication Engineering also participated in the discussions, contributing new ideas for expanding collaboration in areas such as new energy vehicles, intelligent connected vehicles, electronic system design, and simulation technologies.

Innovation in Action—Automotive Wind Tunnel Laboratory

At the Jilin University Automotive Wind Tunnel Laboratory, the Cadence management team observed wind tunnel testing of the GSpeed Formula Electric Racing Car and gained deeper insight into the university’s achievements in automotive aerodynamics, innovative race car design, and vehicle engineering research and testing.

The university’s talent development model, which closely integrates engineering practice with innovation-driven education, together with its advanced research infrastructure, left a strong impression on the Cadence team. The team witnessed the complete engineering process, from vehicle design and simulation analysis to wind tunnel testing and engineering validation.

Cultivating Future-Ready Talent Together

From the original CFD Joint Laboratory to the newly upgraded CAE Multiphysics Joint Laboratory, the scope of collaboration between Jilin University and Cadence continues to expand including strategic new areas: new energy vehicles, intelligent connected vehicles, electronic system design, and CAE multiphysics technologies. By bringing advanced simulation technologies into research and education, both organizations aim to develop more globally minded, innovative, and practice-oriented engineering professionals not only in the classroom and lab but also with student teams that are exploring possibilities outside the required curriculum.

Cadence looks forward to working closely with Jilin University to empower research and education through advanced technologies and to develop the future workforce that will impact the cutting-edge innovations to come.
