Insightful Discussions at CadenceCONNECT CFD India

17 Mar 2023 • 2 minute read

Cadence had recently organized CFD technology days in Bengaluru on March 14 and 15. This two-day event focused on collaborating with CFD professionals across the industry to discuss high-fidelity CFD solutions that Cadence is offering for turbomachinery and automotive design. It was a unique experience for CFD enthusiasts and professionals to meet, greet, and hear from Cadence CFD experts from Belgium and the US.

Krishna Kumar

Krishna Kumar, Corporate VP of Sales at Cadence, addressed this event with a few words on EDA, the evolution of intelligent system design, and how CFD is crucial in today’s engineering and design problems.

Kumar Srinivasa

Kumar Srinivasa, Senior Technical Director of CFD Sales at Cadence, provided a high-level overview of Cadence and highlighted how CFD is now an integral part of Cadence overall vision to extend its solutions to full systems through recent investments in various CFD technologies.  Having worked in the automotive industry for over 35 years, Kumar highlighted the differentiating technologies that Cadence CFD offers for automotive design.

Kumar touched on the different combustion models available on the CharLES solver (Cascade Technologies), its impeccable postprocessing technology with high graphics, and the Voronoi meshing for high-fidelity CFD solutions.

Jean Charles Bonaccorsi

Jean-Charles Bonaccorsi, Application Engineering Director at Cadence, spoke about the turbomachinery CFD solutions in Cadence Fidelity platform. He offered insights into structured and unstructured meshing using Fidelity Autogrid and Hexpress and how these meshing types can be combined in a single project. He further explained the different treatment methods for the rotor-stator interfaces and the advantage of using the Nonlinear Harmonic (NLH) method for two orders of magnitude faster solution compared to full unsteady simulation. He also added that NLH provides 4X faster solution with a CPU booster, and combining a CPU booster with GPU acceleration brings about a 22X speed-up factor.

Shraman Goswami, Ph.D., from Honeywell, delivered a customer presentation on Urban air mobility (UAM) – its advantages in relieving traffic pressure and reducing travel time, the different energy sources for the vehicle, and the various types of UAM vehicles. There were also use case presentations with full workflow demonstrations in Fidelity for automotive and turbomachinery applications. The CadenceCONNECT CFD Technology day concluded with the Fidelity platform on Cloud hands-on session.
