Last Week at Fidelity CFD

26 Sep 2022 • 2 minute read

Good Monday to you all. There are only 96 days left in 2022, and hopefully, our activities at Fidelity CFD can help you make the most of them.

From the Blogs

I like to say that geometry models are to mesh generation what turbulence models are to CFD. I mean that in both the nice way (they are both models of reality that allow us to perform our simulations with a certain degree of accuracy) and in the not so nice way (a real pain in the neck that causes as many problems as they solve). On geometry models, in particular, there are many types, but the main two are NURBS and discrete. What people hate about NURBS are topology. What people hate about discrete is the lack of topology. With that in mind, have a look at Fidelity Pointwise Remedy Drawbacks Working with Analytic and Discrete Geometry Types.

Any article about geometry modeling must include an image of the Stanford bunny.

While we're on the topic of geometry modeling, if you want to explore all the various types of geometry models used in computational simulation and their relative pros and cons, check out the whitepaper Preparation of Geometry Models for Mesh Generation and CFD.

The latest installment of our This Is How I Mesh blog series profiled Reza Djeddi, a CFD application engineer in our Fort Worth office. With your appetite whetted, you can use the This Is How I Mesh tag to see all these interesting profiles of people both within and without our organization.

And, of course, This Week in CFD brought the week to a close with a round-up of CFD news, notes, and commentary.

Upcoming Events

Join us on 5th October for Making the Shipping Sector Greener by Leveraging CFD. During this webinar, we'll delve into marine engineering topics such as trim and hull shape optimization, calculation of energy efficiency indices, alternative propulsion methods and designs, and much more, all with an eye toward reducing fuel consumption.

And keep an eye out for CFD at both CadenceLIVE Korea 2022 (18 Oct) and CadenceLIVE Europe 2022 (21-22 Nov).

Videos

Last week's Tutorial Tuesday video described how to install the license proxy server for running Pointwise 2022.1 on macOS.

The complete set of Tutorial Tuesday videos (now numbering 407) is a great way to learn about Fidelity CFD in just a few minutes at a time.
