21 Feb 2023 • 4 minute read

It's time for our weekly look back on everything happening here at Cadence Fidelity CFD.

From the Blogs

LeadingEDGE Predicts Full-Scale Ship Performance of Lloyd’s Register Regal

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software increasingly plays a significant role in predicting and optimizing ship performance. Extensive international workshops aimed at the constant verification and validation of the data produced by CFD tools are regularly organized among research centers and universities that are deeply involved in further developing this numerical alternative to experimental model testing. Understanding the Archaic Organism Behaviors with Computational Fluid Dynamics

A faster and more efficient tool for ruminating and studying ancient organism behavior is necessary. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools that have played revering roles in the design and optimization of aerovehicles to reduce proposing on tracks, in climate modeling, VFX effects in movies are expected to predict ancient as well as present-day organism behavior in turbulent waters, on Jupiter, or any other exotic environment. Robust Design Optimization of a Ford Turbocharger Compressor

What is robust design optimization (RDO), and is it better than standard optimization? In this customer case, we describe a multi-disciplinary optimization of a turbocharger compressor from FORD Motor Company, in which we demonstrate it is. RDO combines standard numerical optimization with sensitivity analysis to take into account the influence of manufacturing variations and operating uncertainties on product performance early in the design process. This type of CFD optimization enables engineers to find optimal designs that are less sensitive to these uncertainties, giving more stable performance results. Read more.

Webinars

CadenceTECHTALK: Self-Propulsion CFD Simulations: Get Them Right and Fast—23 Feb

Cadence helps the maritime industry effectively achieve ship contract speed while respecting the new environmental regulations. As such, self-propulsion simulations are crucial and must provide accurate information for propeller thrust, torque and rotation rate, power, and the vessel's dynamic position relative to others. Register for a webinar where we explore many features that Cadence offers for highly accurate and automated self-propulsion simulations. Register today.

CadenceTECHTALK: Simulating Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) with Fidelity—28 Feb

Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) modeling is a fundamental step in the design process of turbomachinery. Highly variable pressure and temperature gradients affect not only efficiency and performance but also the structural integrity of blades. In this CadenceTECHTALK, we introduce Fidelity’s FSI simulation capabilities, describe how geometry deformation can be modeled, and explain its effect on the fluid field. Register today.
