Women in CFD with Fanny Besem-Cordova

For the December post of the Women in CFD series, we have Fanny Besem-Cordova, principal application engineer at Cadence, to inspire us through her career journey. She is a woman with multiple talents and a great role model for those who aspire to excel at both work and co-curricular activities. Read our conversation below to know more about Fanny and her journey in the world of CFD. Read more.

On-Demand Webinar: LMG Marin Cuts Time and Costs in Ship Design Using Fine Marine

LMG Marin is a naval architecture design and engineering office working on commercial ships, such as ferries, tankers, tugs, and catamarans. The role CFD plays in their processes has grown considerably over the years, and it has replaced towing tank tests in most of their designs. In this webinar, LMG Marin demonstrates how they use Fine Marine at different stages in their design workflow. Defining a Good Grid for Solution Accuracy

It is challenging to assess the error introduced by the grid for an arbitrary case because of the complexity of the dynamics inherent in solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations. The convective derivative in the Navier-Stokes equations seems a fitting candidate to begin with when examining the effects of the grid (due to its non-linear nature). For this study, a passive scalar advection case is considered, and an advection-only solver is employed. This work demonstrates baseline discrepancies between grid types for a given solver, with the understanding that more sophisticated algorithms may improve the quality of the solution, but the trends will remain the same.
