Pointwise V18.4 R4 Now Available for Download and Production Use

3 Jun 2021 • 1 minute read

As the title says, Pointwise Version 18.4 R4 is now available for download and production use. V18.4 R4 consists almost entirely of bug fixes. The only new feature is extension of the Glyph scripting command getCellsUsingIndex to surface meshes. (It previously worked only for volume meshes.)

This is a cool mesh image of a cut through a volume mesh around a generic snowmobile.

You can download V18.4 R4 from www.pointwise.com/downloads.

And now to decode for those of you new to the Pointwise meshing software.

  • Pointwise V18.4 is the major release which came out in October 2020 and featured the first implementation of Flashpoint, our suite of automation features.
  • About every three weeks we build and release a release candidate consisting of bug fixes. An RC is only made available to the customers reporting those bugs because it doesn't go through full QA.
  • So the RC version numbers for V18.4 went V18.4 R2C1, R2C2, R2C3, R2C4.
  • After about 4 RCs, we roll up the bug fixes and any small features into an "R" release which goes through the full QA process.
  • And we've now completed a series of RCs for V18.4 R4.
  • And out goes the new release.
  • Oh, and Glyph is Pointwise's scripting language for writing templates and macros.

While that's going on, we have a second development stream that's working on major new capabilities for V18.5. But more about that later.
