This Week in CFD - and More

24 Jun 2022 • 2 minute read

Has it really been since 28 Apr when I last yammered here? That seems to be my most recent blog post, the one in which I introduced you to Fidelity CFD.

And that may be the cause of my blogging hiatus - the launch of Fidelity CFD and everything that followed. There has been a lot of travel and a lot of talking about Fidelity but not much time to write about it or anything else. Here are just a few things I missed sharing, written by me and my friends.

  • There was CadenceLIVE Silicon Valley, the company's big annual user event on our home turf and the first in-person version that included CFD. We filled the CFD track with six fantastic presentations including our own introduction to the new high-order/LES flow solver (aka Fidelity Flow H-O). During the keynotes, our CEO announced Cadence OnCloud which – as you can probably infer from its name – is our new SaaS, cloud-based, AWS-powered cloud platform featuring CFD and other computational software products. For my full write-up see CFD News from CadenceLIVE on Another Fine Mesh.
  • My co-blogger, Veena, shared an interview with one of my newer Cadence colleagues, Kumar Srinivasan, who joined us after a long career leading CFD teams at major automotive companies, most recently Stellantis. Kumar has fascinating insights into CFD for automotive systems (aka big things that roll) so please take a moment to read about him.
  • To celebrate Women in Engineering Day, Veena also interviewed my long-time colleague Carolyn Woeber to learn more about her career story and what has helped her advance over the decades.
  • And not to forget about Fidelity, my new-ish colleague Anne-Marie – whom I met for the first time at CadenceLIVE ("You're taller than you look on Zoom." My mother would probably say I'm slouching.) – shared some details on what's new in Fidelity CFD 2022.1. A recording of this live webinar from 22 June should be available soon.

But the reason I brought you here was for the latest news and notions from the concentric worlds of CFD, CAE, and PLM. Featured items include:

  • A very nice (IMO) beginner's guide to CAD data.
  • A very cool visualization of an IGA simulation of flow over a car with rotating wheels.
  • A very timely survey about cloud-based PLM.
  • A very long list of everything else from software releases, to events, to financial news, and much more.

It's all in This Week in CFD #474 on Another Fine Mesh.

And there have been several weeks of CFD since 28 April, so for all you news gluttons:

  • This Week in CFD #473 - 03 June
  • This Week in CFD #472 - 27 May
  • This Week in CFD #471 - 20 May
