'Virtuoso Meets Maxwell' is a blog series aimed at exploring the capabilities and potential of Virtuoso RF and Virtuoso MultiTech. So, how does Virtuoso meet Maxwell? Now, Virtuoso supports RF designs, and the RF designers measure the physical and radiation effects by using Maxwell's equations. In addition to providing insights into the useful software enhancements, this series broadcasts the voices of different bloggers and experts about their knowledge and experience of various tools in the Virtuoso IC-Packaging world along with the nuances of RF, microwave, and high frequency designs. We are posting on Mondays.
You might have read Steve's post about the Edit-in-ConcertTM functionality available in the Cadence® Virtuoso® RF Solution. Steve had highlighted the benefits of using Edit-in-Concert mode to view and edit die packages and their corresponding die layouts synchronously.
In this blog, let's look at a typical design scenario where the die package and the die layout are created independently. A layout engineer, let’s call him Eric, is working on the die layout, and a package engineer, let’s call him Dan, is working on the die package.
The challenge is to edit these designs—without stamping on someone’s toes.
That's when the team explores Edit-in-Concert, which helps them view and edit the package and the layout synchronously. Eric and Dan are amazed at how they can visualize the IC in the context of the package and see how a change to one die impacts the design of the other.
Edit-in-Concert helped them ensure that the combination of the die layout and the die package met all their design requirements, while minimizing the overall cost of production. Ever since, they've been strongly recommending this new technology to their colleagues and customers.
I'm sure you'll be thrilled to see how well Edit-in-Concert works for your designs too!
Now that I've talked about why Edit-in-Concert, I'll turn my attention to how it's done in Virtuoso RF. Here’s a video demonstration that covers everything you need to know about using Edit-in-Concert.
