Playing for Good

Last Saturday, Cadence and Concern India Foundation hosted a very special event - a charity sports tournament for corporates called “5Cs” – the Corporate Citizenship Challenge for the Cause of Children. It is one of the most fun events that Cadence India hosts, and of course a meaningful one because there is a solid cause behind it (For the past nine years our NGO partner has been Concern India Foundation).

Cadence has been organizing 5Cs for over 20 years now, and it has grown from strength to strength and has seen several avatars. In the initial years 5Cs was a cricket challenge (that’s what two of the five Cs stood for) and was held only in Noida. It later expanded to Chandigarh, Bangalore and even London! It is now held only in Bangalore.

Over the years – thanks to popular demand by the participants - it has expanded to include seven sports: badminton, table tennis, football, some form of running event (this year it was a relay), throwball and basketball along with cricket. And that prompted us to change the “C” for “Cricket” to “C” for “Citizenship”. In terms of number of participants too, there has been a huge increase. This year, we had over 900 sportspersons battling it out on the court and field!

Most of the companies that participate are our partners and customers. It’s great to see some new and some old faces every year; for the players, every year is exciting with new opponents, new companies to play against (depending on the draws) and new players within teams. We had 20 teams participating this year: Amadeus, Arm, Cadence, Cisco, CommScope, GLOBALFOUNDRIES, Infineon, Maxim Integrated, McAfee, MediaTek, NXP, Qualcomm, Refinitiv, Samsung Semiconductors, SiFive, Sure Waves, Tejas network, Texas Instruments, Tessolve and Western Digital.

The overall winner was Amadeus, the first runner up was Qualcomm and the second runner up was NXP.

5Cs has raised over US$ 700,000 (Rs 5 crore) for the cause of underprivileged children and Cadence India is proud to have the event as a key event in our CSR calendar. One of the slogans of the event is “Play For Good” and indeed, that sums up what 5Cs is all about.

You can see all the pictures on the Cadence India Facebook page.
