Cadence contact tells you that the fix you need is in RC 8.1.201. You ask your
internal contact what version of RTL Compiler is installed and you are told
that it is 08.10-s203_1. Why the discrepancy? Is this the version that you
comes from the fact that all RTL Compiler and Conformal releases currently have
two version numbers. Cadence recently moved to the more intuitive #.#.###
versioning scheme. Where the first #.# is the major release numeric designation
and the ### is the patch level.
For example, the first version number for the RTL
Compiler 8.1 release was 8.1.100. The first patch release was 8.1.101. The
8.1.200 version was a supplemental release that included numerous new features.
The latest version is 8.1.202 at the time that this article was published.
However, the version number internal to RTL Compiler still uses the old scheme
of ##.##-p|s###_#. Where the ##.## is the major release numeric designation and
the p|s###_# is the patch level. The ‘p' indicates a production release -
typically the first version of a major release. The ‘s' indicates a
supplemental release. For example, the first version number for the RTL
Compiler 8.1 release was 08.10-p104_1 which corresponds to 8.1.100. The first
patch release was 08.10-s108_1 which corresponds to 8.1.101 and so on. The
recent entries on downloads.cadence.com
list both version number styles to make it easier to find the version that you
numbers on the Conformal side require less explanation. The new #.#.### and older
#.#-p|s### schemes are the same as RTL Compiler. However the numbering of the
### and p|s### portions of the version number are aligned. For example, the version
numbers for the first release of Conformal LEC 8.1 are 8.1.100 and 8.1-p100.
The most recent patch release at the time of writing is referred to as 8.1.280
