Dual Footprint

I would like to make a footprint that can accept two different packages. For example, a MOV footprint that accepts a 300mil and 600mil spacing package. Here is where I'm having issues:

 1) In Orcad Capture I would like to use a standard MOV schematic symbol, which only has two pins. In PCB editor, I would like that symbol to correspond to a dual footprint having 4 pins, with the extra pins sharing the same nets as the other two.

 2) If I make a dual footprint in PCB Editor (4 pins) I get an error when importing the netlist, which makes sense. Would it be possible to     configure the two extra pins to be on the same nets as the other two when creating the footprint and bypassing the extra pin error?

Hopefully I've explained this clearly, let me know if I need to elaborate.

Thanks in advance.

    Ace,

We had that same problem.  Our solution was to place two components on the schematic tied together and use the Part Manager variants to handle the bill-of-material issues.  In PCB Editor just place the two parts on top of each other and tie together as you would any two parts.  Of course you will have some DRC errors that you will have to waive.

    Hope this helps!

I'd rather not create two symbols for the same part in the schematic. Is there any ways to have two footprints for one schematic symbol? I've looked at the alias and "parts per package" options when creating a part, but it doesn't look like those would help.

Add a property to the part in Capture called ALT_SYMBOLS with your alternative footprint name. This will give you the option when placing in Allegro to use RMB Alt Symbol.....

I must be doing something wrong because..

    1) I created the alternate footprint in PCB Editor.

    2) In capture, I updated the part to have an "ALT_SYMBOL" property with a value of the alternate footprint.

    3) Updated the cache in the schematic design.

    4) Exported the netlist in Capture.

    5) Deleted the old component in PCB Editor.

    6) Imported the netlist into PCB Editor.

    7) Updated the symbols in PCB Editor.

    8) Tried to place the part, saw the "alt symbol" option when I right clicked, but it was greyed out.

    Any ideas?
