Design Entry HDL 16.3 - replace 100 components in schematic

In an existing design I need to replace 100 components in a schematic -- 100 of one type of component being replaced by 100 of another type of component.  Is there a way to quickly replace these components where the rotation of the schematic symbol that is being replaced is retained and the reference designator is retained?

In short, I'd like to replace 100 components but retain the symbol rotation and retain each reference designator.

This is a most dreadful task when doing it manually.  Is this the perfect motivation to learn skill code?  Can it be done in skill code?  Thanks, in advance, for any help.

    Hi,

You can consider using the Global Component Replace capability in Design Entry HDL (DEHDL, formerly – ConceptHDL).

It’s a very efficient GUI driven utility where you can select a component and replace it with another (among other global commands).

In addition, to preserve the LOCATION/$LOCATION values during the replace, use these project .cpm directives:

        RETAIN_LOCATION_ON_REPLACE 'ON'

        RETAIN_HARD_LOCATION_ON_REPLACE 'ON'

If this is just another part table version of the same symbol, try using Part Manager to replace the key properties with the new version…
