In OrCAD Capture 17.4 net changes name when a Test Point is added

  1. Hello

I am facing a simple but odd question in using OrCAD Capture 17.4.

I have inserted into the schematics some test points in order to identify them when I will have the PCB.

It happens that the nets where the TP are inserted change their name with respect to the alias I imposed.

As an example, net labeled with alias CMD_L2 becomes CMD_L2_17233165. The alias anyway does NOT change!

I tried to change net name in properties or to delete the alias and place it again into the same position, without success.

I have found no property in the test point part which I can relate to such a behaviour.

Usually, posts that I found on TPs are about PCB layout, not about the schematics.

Could anyone be so kind to give me a piece of advice about how to solve this issue?

A Capture project requires two files. An OPJ file, which is just text, and a DSN file which is the "real" binary data for the schematic. If you open a Capture project, you get the DSN file related to it opened as well. You can open the DSN file directly with File>Open>Design within Capture. (If you double-click on a file you will start whichever application is associated with the File Extension in Windows Default Programs)

Capture has evaluated that the two CMD_L2 Nets are different and has separated them. If you create a text netlist, like Tools>Create Netlist, Other tab, orWirelist64.dll, you can verify what the resulting connectivity is for the design.

When you double click on .dsn file by default it opens in the PCB router application and not in capture. The right way to open a file is as oldmouldy said - File - open - design
