Dumb Question about Orcad on Linux

RayDude
RayDude over 15 years ago

I've been using Orcad on PC for about a year now. I'm a unix lover and have gotten the Sys Admin to install Cadence 6.3 on our linux box and setup the license server.

However, I can't figure out what the executable for Orcad is called. There's no capture or orcad executable.

So how do I run it? Is there something special to install it?

Brian

My IT guy informs me that the license manager won't run in Wine, so you can only run Orcad in evaluation mode.

Looks like we'll be running VMware server on our server.

Perhaps Cadence would consider a version for linux at some point?

I've just installed 16.3 Demo under Debian Sid using the Wine (as of today version 1.1.42) packages from http://www.winehq.org/download/deblenny and Capture.exe runs and I was able to open up the .DSN file. Looks like the newer versions of Wine work. Way to go wine devs! The exec I ran by doubleclicking on it in the "winefile" app included from wine. It was installed in: ~/.wine/drive_c/OrCAD/OrCAD_16.3_Demo/tools/capture/Capture.exe It is a bit slow to open & the mouse is invisible for a while within the Capture.exe window until it seems to load things and then the widgets start to work for the menus.

Have you tried it with a licensed version? The issue in the past has always been that the cadence license manager doesn't play well in wine (actually I don't think it works at all). We use floating license manager and that has never worked. I would love it to, I could get rid of vmplayer's Windows XP image that way. Brian

I saw those reports, but it also was not recently reported on wine site.

Just refreshing the question once again since the post is a decade old.

With all new developments and updates can 17.4 OrCAD professional with PSpice work on Linux? or any other OS apart from Windows because there are many users who would prefer/currently working on different OS such as Linux or other apart from windows.
