axlDBCreateShape attach to via?

Hi

I've used axlDBCreateShape and attached it to a symbol with succes in the past.

Now I would like to be able to do the same for a via but seems like this is not possible or is there a way to do this?

Best regards

Ole

    Hi Dave

I'm not sure that I follow you here.

Do you mean creating a symbol on the fly for the purpose of creating the padstack attached to that symbol and then replace all vias with the respective padstacks in memory?

Suppose I work with a design with 4 different vias - 2 blind (blind1, blind2), 1 buried (buried1) and a throughhole (thr1) just for the sake of the example and not considering production.

Since they already exist as padstacks in the design I suppose that I'm not allowed to generate them. Also, I don't want to break the update padstack functionality if a user should want to do that.

So since attachment to vias is not possible, I'm thinking along the lines of creating 4 copies with a new attached shape, replace and rename - not sure if this is feasible but the only way around that I can see.

I'm not sure what the symbol creation will do for me and if it will leave the users with the choice of still sliding vias, deleting vias etc.

    Best regards

    Ole

    Hi Ole,

I can't quite visualise what you are trying to do but I can imagine a solution whereby you create a symbol on the fly containing the via and the shape. Instead of sliding the via, your user would "slide" the symbol. Reading your comments this probably isn't the use case that you need.

    Regards,

    Dave
