Allegro 16.0

Just started using Allegro PCB Design XL version 16.01

where do I reset the graphics or user preferences to stop the pads, vias and traces from highlighting and identifying the element?

    Although I don’t, to disable data tips in 16.1

    Setup->User Preferences…

    Preselection

    Disable_datatips

    that will disable the popup that displays what the elements that are highlighted.

    is there a way to stop the highlighting as the mouse goes over the trace, pads or vias

    You can set the Find Filter to "All Off" but this will spanner attempting to pick "stuff" with the mouse left-click (or pre-select mode), you would then need to use the menus and set the FInd Filter for each operation like the pre-16.0 way of working, or set the Find Filter for each operation before pre-selection. (If you are over a bunch of "stuff", the tab key will cycle through the objects to get the required one)
