generating netlist files

I'm a new user, and am just learning PCB layout. I've had a veteran friend on the phone walking me through some of my startup issues. What he and I can't seem to figure out is why Orcad is not generating the netlist files from the schematic. Does it have something to do with the configuration file?

What happens when you run the netlist command?  Are you getting errors?  Did you first run the Annotate and DRC commands?

It doesn't give me an error, but it doesn't put the files in the chosen directory. I run the DRC with not errors, I am not familiar with the Annotate command. Can you walk me through it?

Check the session log after you create a netlist. It should tell you if it worked or not and show the path to the netlist files.

Ditto what he said.  Your session log should tell you where the files are being placed, assuming you have no errors.

Annotate command will go through all parts in the design and add reference designation for each one.  Might not be necessary if you have your program setup to automatically annotate a part when its added to the schematic.  To annotate, make sure your *.dsn file is highlighted in your project window, go to "Tools" --> "Annotate", and click "OK".  Your sessin log will contain relevant info afterwards.

     good luck

I really appreciate the help, but something is still not working. When I click "Tools" "Create netlist" and select a directory, and click "OK" a dialog box says "Design xxx.dsn will be saved prior to netlisting" I click "OK", then nothing. No errors, nothing.
