Purpose of Tooling Corners?

Hi Everyone,

We have some older boards that contain tooling corners.  On these boards, they are placed at the corners (of course) and spaced slightly outside the board outline.  Previous vendors have ignored them while another is using them to define the board extents.

Can anybody tell me: 1) What is the purpose of the tooling corner, and 2) where should they be placed if they are used?

Thanks for any help on the subject.

Matt M.

They used to be added for film alignment at the fabricator -- never for board extents.  Should be harmless to keep.  Always check with your fabricator first however.

As informed by Redwire they are used for film alignment by the fabricators , If your board has a extra frame then you can add the tooling holes on them or else you can define your existing mounting holes inside the board geometry as tooling  holes in the Fab notes.
