Mystery properties

Hi All,

I have a schematic that has extra properties that I did not add:

CONNWIDTH    8.000
HIGHLIGHT    NO
MAXWIDTH    8.000
MINWIDTH    8.000
NETGROUP    0
NETWEIGHT    50
PLANELAYERS
RECONNTYPE    STD
ROUTELAYERS
SPACINGBYLAYER
TESTPOINT    NO

I did not add these properties and I think they are interfering with the properties that I do use:

MAX_TRACK_WIDTH    30
MIN_TRACK_WIDTH    30
REC_TRACK_WIDTH    30

I am using powernet to create a net list.  If I examine the netlist that is created the properties that I do want are not there for many of the nets.  For the nets that do not have these extra properties seem to be OK. I am using powernet V2.0b07 and Orcad version 16.6 s055

Thanks in advance.

Roger

These used to be part of the OrCAD Layout properties, you could "safely" remove these properties if you no longer need them. Select the DSN file entry in the Project Manager Window in OrCAD Capture and use Edit>Object Properties, use the Schematic Nets and / or Flat Nets tabs to remove the properties since they may have been assigned in the schematic, or from Back Annotation.

It will not let me delete the property but gives me the error: " one or more selected properties cannot be deleted. The possible causes for this are as follows: the page containing the selected property is locked, the selected property is locked, the selected property is defined in the part library or the selected property is an internal property" How do I determine which one of the options is the cause?

The most likely reason that you get this message is down to not all of the nets having all of the property values assigned, if you just OK the messages the properties assigned will be deleted. If the Edit>Object Properties is not removing the properties, you can try on each page. Unless you have specifically locked the DSN and / or pages (you will see the "padlock" against the entries in the Project Manager window) you will be able to delete the assigned Property values.

Thanks for sticking with me on this issue. There isn't a lock symbol on any of the schematic pages. I even tried to lock them and unlock them and it will still not allow me to delete these properties. Even if try to do it on an individual page I still get the same message. I tried copying the schematic pages to a new project and it behaves the same way. I did notice that it behaves differently if I delete the property in the flat nets tab or the schematic nets tab. In the flat nets tab it doesn't give me an error message but the properties come back after I tell them it to delete them.

"Flat Nets" inherit the properties from "Schematic Nets" (wires on the page), so that means that the properties are attached to wires and they are what to "attack". If you can ZIP and attach the design, DSN file, I will have a go at removing the properties, I have managed to do this to designs in the past but it has been a while since I last had to do this.
