Cannot create pad shape with void in the middle

Hi!

We're trying to create a padstack with voids like the following part (the outer large pad)

We get this error: "shape symbol cannot have a void in a shape".  Unfortunately we can't do like in some of the online helps to make a small cut in the copper, as this is a microphone seal and we need good solder all around.

How would we go about making this pad in the shape editor?

Thanks,

Mitch

You have found an annoying limit of the tool. Here's a suggestion: For the circular pad it could become the regular padstack. (Drill in pad). For the rectangle you can add this shape to the part (not padstack) when building the part. The copper will merge on your PCB (or will during Gerber). Same with the four small rectangles. You can also play games with pin numbers putting in extra pins as needed to support overlay of electrical connections.

Draw the "pin" shapes in the Package Symbol, it has no restriction on creating shapes, then add a "small" surface mount pin to define the connection point. The pin that defines the connection point must be within the shape boundary. You get a DRC in the Package Symbol for Pin to Shape but this will be removed once the symbol is loaded into a design with a netlist connecting the pin and the shape will also take on the assigned net name.

Thanks guys, we'll start playing with these workarounds.

We're in the middle of a design right now, so I don't want to install 17.2 just yet and find we have to do some IT debugging.  We'll install this after we get our project released.
