Trouble installing the Orcad 16.5

Hi,

I did recently install the Orcad 16.3 Demo version, but wanted to upgrade to 16.5. The 16.5 cd was inserted and the installation process was started without uninstalling the old 16.3 Demo. The installation did not prompt me with any warnings, and the setup seemed to be okay.

However, when i am starting a new "Analog or Mixed A/D" project in Capture CIS i am getting this warning:

----------------------- ERROR(ORCAP-1031): The OrCAD installation did not complete successfully. Cannot proceed. To rectify this error, close Capture, run the following command by using the Start - Run menu option from the taskbar and restart Capture: \\tools\\bin\\Pspiceexplorersrvr.exe / regserver -----------------------

The instructions did not seem to work. I did also try uninstalling and installing several times. System is Win 7, 32-bits.

Anyone with hints & tips on this one?

Best regards,
Magnus,
Norway

Try following and see if that helps.

    Launch Capture

Bring up command window, if this is not already up. To do this select View>Toolbar>Command Window

Use following command at prompt in command windows

    DboTclHelper_ReRegisterOrCADPlugins

This should fix this issue. The above command may take about 30-60 sec to complete.

Cadence SPB support co-existence of multiple releases on same systems, hence install of newer version does not prompt for removal of older version. These separate release should not interfere with each other, however at a time you can use only one release.

    Capture> DboTclHelper_ReRegisterOrCADPlugins
    [ 1]invalid command name "DboTclHelper_ReRegisterOrCADPlugins"

Tried to type this in the command window. Is this how it should be typed?

I assume you are running capture in demo mode? Please confirm.

if you are running capture in demo mode, can you try the following

Open a dos command window in administrator mode

    use following command from there

    <INSTALLDIR>\tools\bin\PSpiceexplorersrvr.exe / regserver

    <INSTALLDIR>\tools\PSpice\simsrvr.exe / regserver

Where <INSTALLDIR> is install location for your system. Replace this by actual value.

Yes, i am running it in demo mode.

I followed the instructions and that seemed to fix the problem. However, it looks like i have to do it before i open the program every time. After reboot i am getting the same error.

    Any idea?

No, you should not be getting same error after reboot. This should be just one time requirement. Once this works, it should continue to work irrespective of reboot. Do you get this error after reboot for several designs or just one specific design?
