CES 2022: Cadence Will Be there In-Person with Lots of Tensilica Applications

breakfast bytes logoces 2022UPDATE: This post is out of date since Cadence will not be attending CES in person.

CES 2022 is coming up from January 5th to 8th 2022. This is the event you probably think of as the Consumer Electronics Show, but these days its official name is just its initials. Unlike last year, the event will take place in-person although there is also a digital-only registration that allows you to see conference sessions, keynotes, and interact with exhibitors.

As usual, CES will be in Las Vegas. There seem to be two themes this year:

As CES returns to Las Vegas, the show will display the next wave innovation that will shape 2022 and the economy of tomorrow. The show is set to feature a plethora of exhibitors advancing two of the most compelling technology megatrends of the future: intelligent automation and the evolution of the metaverse.

Cadence at CES

One of those exhibitors will be Cadence. Note that we are in a new location: Venetian Hotel, Level 2 Titian 2301. We will be there from 10am to 6pm on Wednesday January 5th. Then 9am to 6pm on Thursday and Friday. Then 9am to 4pm on Saturday January 8th.

If you've never been to the Venetian, you won't be surprised that it has a re-creation of the Grand Canal in Venice complete with gondolas. What makes it so "Vegas" is that the canal is on the second floor! If you plan to visit the real Venice in Italy, then I recommend going in winter. The misty atmosphere in the city makes it more of an experience. If you go in summer, be aware that there are plans that from 2022 you will need to book in advance and pay a small fee to access the city. In the pre-Covid era, Venice was sometimes so busy in summer that they had to close the city to any more visitors.

Tensilica

As always at CES, Cadence's focus is on the Tensilica processor product line for audio, vision, radar, 5G, and more. Unfortunately, nobody comes. to CES to check out EDA tools. In the era of domain-specific processors, Tensilica is the perfect choice, with enormous configurability at both the instruction-level and the I/O level. There is a wide range of processors from the Vision P1 DSP intended for ultra-low-power always-on applications, up to the NNA 110 Accelerator for neural networks. And if that is not enough, you can go multi-core or multi-processor. The product line is all delivered as IP.

On the CES booth, we depend on some of our customers to show off the capabilities of the Tensilica processors. Since they are IP, they lack photogenic impact on their own. Here is what we are showing:

  • ces 2022HiFi DSPs for Audio, Voice, and Speech
    • DSP Concepts – TWS Audio Solution
    • TWS and Headphone Voice and Hearing Enhancement
    • Mimi Hearing Wellbeing
  • Vision DSPs and AI Platform
    • Real-Time Visual SLAM for Embedded Devices
    • ADAS at the Edge with AI
    • Shopping with AI
    • Deep Learning-Based Image Upscaling and Concurrent Processing for Edge AI
    • People Detection and Tracking with NNAPI
  • ConnX DSPs for Radar, Lidar, and 5G
    • 5G Open RAN PHY for Basestation
    • Advanced 4D Imaging Radar for ADAS/AV

There will also be a couple of dozen consumer products that you can check out. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to give you a full list here, but come by and see Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro, the Realme 8 5G phone, the Alldocube iPlay40 Pro Tablet, and many more. All with Tensilica inside, of course.
