ESD Alliance CEO Outlook (and the Kaufman Dinner)

30 Mar 2022 • 2 minute read

breakfast bytes logoThe ESD Alliance has two events coming up in the next couple of months, both of which, as it happens, feature Cadence's CEO Anirudh Devgan, although only one with him in the starring role.

CEO Outlook Panel

The first event is the CEO Outlook Panel, which will be held on April 28th. The panel itself is actually the third event of the evening. The full schedule is:

  • 5.00 pm: ESD Alliance Annual Membership meeting
  • 5.30 pm: Networking, food, and beverages
  • 6.30 pm: CEO Outlook Panel (ends at 7.30 pm)

The event will be held at Agilent’s Building 5 at 5301 Stevens Creek Boulevard in Santa Clara (according to the SEMI email) but the SEMI website lists it as at Keysight's offices at the same address. Keysight was spun out of Agilent (which itself was spun out of HP...so if you go back far enough you will think of this campus as being the HP site on Stevens Creek). So be prepared for the signs to use either or both company names. Plus, as you will see below, Keysight's Niels Fache is on the panel.

The panel will be moderated by Ed Sperling, editor-in-chief of Semiconductor Engineering.

The CEOs on the panel are:

  • Anirudh Devgan of Cadence
  • Niels Fache of Keysight Technologies
  • Aki Fujimura of D2S
  • Joe Sawicki of Siemens EDA
  • Simon Segars of Arm

The last name was sufficient of a surprise that I emailed the ESD Alliance to make sure it was not a mistake. Because, as I reported in January Update, Simon resigned as Arm's CEO (and I assume from the company entirely). Anyway, the ESD Alliance confirmed that Simon still plans to be there.

I will be there and will report on what was said for those of you that are unable to attend.

Registration is open (and is free if your employer is a member of SEMI, which it probably is, or $49 otherwise).

The second ESD Alliance event is the Kaufman Award Dinner, or officially ESDA 2021 Phil Kaufman Award Ceremony and Banquet Honoring Anirudh Devgan.

The dinner will be held on May 12th starting at 6.30 pm. It is scheduled until 9.30 pm but, in my experience, often runs over. It will be held in downtown San Jose at The Glasshouse. The street address for your GPS is 2 S Market Street, San Jose.

I wrote about the award earlier this year in my post Anirudh Recognized with the 2021 Phil Kaufman Award. I know it is 2022 now, and usually, the dinner is held late in the year of the award. But...Covid-19. Nominations are already open for the 2022 award and, if all goes well, the 2022 dinner should be held later this year, assuming the normal calendar.

Above are some pictures I took at the last two Kaufman dinners, honoring Mary Jane Irwin in 2019 (the first female recipient), and Tom Williams in 2018 (the first figure skating champion!). For Covid reasons, the award was not awarded in 2020.

If you attend, usually companies purchase one or more tables, but individual tickets are also available and registration is open. I will be there and will cover the event on Breakfast Bytes.
