Do you know what the Stevie Awards are? Officially, they are the International Business Awards, but just like the Academy Awards of Merit are colloquially known as Oscars, these awards are known as Stevies.

They are:

a set of eight business awards competitions staged annually by Stevie Awards, Inc.. They were created in 2002 to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of companies and business people worldwide.

Cadence won three gold awards:

GOLD - Cadence Design Systems - Most Innovative Technical Company of the Year
GOLD - Cadence Design Systems - Clarity 3D Solver - Technical Innovation of the Year
GOLD - Cadence Design Systems - Clarity 3D Solver - Innovation of the Year

This page lists all the winners (note that confusingly one award goes to a company called Clarity and one to our product with the same name). The awards will actually be presented at a virtual event on December 1.

You probably wondered where the name "Stevie" came from, with the obvious likely fact that they were created by someone called Steven. But that's not the case. The name Stevie is taken from the name Stephen, which is derived from the Greek for "crowned." Originally there was only one winner per category, but now there are silver and bronze awards, too.

I wrote about Clarity when we first introduced it in my post Bringing Clarity to System Analysis and then wrote about some of the internals in my post Under the Hood of Clarity and Celsius Solvers. Cadence has several electromagnetic solvers, but Clarity is the most general, able to handle everything from on-chip, to packages, boards, connectors, backplanes, and cables. It scales to large numbers of cores in either on-premises data centers or in the cloud. It was the first of our new family of system-level analysis products (with Celsius being the second).

Here's a bit more detail about the awards:

Gold, Silver, and Bronze Stevie winners were selected from more than 3,800 nominations about 200 fewer than last year, from organizations in more than 60 nations. “Given the extraordinary circumstances in which businesses and other organizations around the world have operated over the past six months, we’re gratified by the number of entries the IBAs received this year and the amazing number of stories of continued business success, individual heroism and selflessness, and increased commitment to the health and safety of employees, customers, and communities,” said Stevie Awards President Maggie Gallagher.

All organizations worldwide are eligible to compete in The International Business Awards, and can submit entries in a wide range of categories, including management awards, company of the year awards, marketing awards, public relations awards, customer service awards, human resources awards, new product awards, IT awards, web site awards, and more.

There are actually eight Stevie Awards programs in 2020: the Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards, the German Stevie Awards, the Middle East Stevie Awards, the Stevie Awards for Sales & Customer Service, the American Business Awards, the International Business Awards, the Stevie Awards for Great Employers, and the Stevie Awards for Women in Business.
