What's for Breakfast? August 8th

8 Aug 2016 • 1 minute read

This is the first weekly video "What's for Breakfast?" that previews the blog entries coming up the following week on Breakfast Bytes.

Monday: RISC-V and Chisel. RISC-V is an important new instruction set architecture (ISA). Chisel is a design system UC Berkeley created to allow designs to be done with a team of a few hardware engineers and a lot of software engineers (over 10% of Cal’s undergrad intake are CS majors).

Tuesday: CDNLive Bengaluru (fka Bangalore). 20 hours on planes (each way) makes for a fun trip. Plus you get to your hotel room at 4am. At least you can have masala dosa freshly made for breakfast. Plus a bit of a preview.

Wednesday: CDNLive.  Michal Siwinski’s keynote on SDE. Dr Sankaran of ADI’s keynote on IoT. Open Silicon’s invited presentation on debugging issues with LPDDR3 and solving them all with IP flexibility. Video interview of Michal for an Indian automotive magazine.

Thursday: CDNLive. Vivek Mishra’s keynote. Bali Kanigicherla of Ineda Systems keynote. Self-heating in advanced nodes. Video interview of Vivek for an Indian magazine. Final thoughts on CDNLive India.

Friday: 5G mobile. The US just released a large band of spectrum, the standards are about to be finalized. Deployment is expected to start in 2020. A 5G phone is almost certainly in your life, with gigabit data speeds. I can’t wait for my iPhone 12.
