Expanding Our Network — AWR Academic Partners

Here at the Cadence Academic Network, it is always important to highlight the great work being done by professors, and academia as a whole. Now that AWR software solutions is a part of Cadence, we want to share some of the amazing partnerships they have with academia. To learn more about the AWR University Program and how you can start accessing their software solutions, check out Cadence Academic Network Welcomes AWR and EMX Users to Join Us and to read more about AWR’s many collaborations, explore their Team RF Blog channel.

When AWR joined Cadence, the Academic Network made it a goal to connect with their professor contacts. Given our already deep connection with North Carolina State University (NCSU), it was only natural to continue to build on that relationship by connecting with Professor David Ricketts.

NCSU has as its mission the accumulation, generation, and dissemination of knowledge in electrical and computer engineering. Professor Ricketts, a valued RF/microwave design faculty professor, took this mission to heart, and started developing a hands-on learning program that would prepare electrical engineering students for industry. By incorporating AWR Design Environment software into his classroom teaching, he was able to create a curriculum that quickly teaches students the basic building blocks of RF circuits.

This curriculum is now widely recognized as a valuable material to teach RF design. To take it to the next level, Professor Ricketts took on the challenge of converting this semester long curriculum into a single day workshop. Through his industry connections and academic experience, he was able to transform the curriculum into an interactive workshop called From Bits to Waves: Building a Modern Digital Radio, which has been widely used at many conferences including conferences for IEEE professionals.

Once we heard about the RF curriculum and subsequent workshop, we wanted to find a way to highlight this great work and thus invited David Ricketts to speak in the Academic Track at CadenceLIVE Americas. Professors like David Ricketts are pivotal contributors to our knowledge network. We look forward to future partnerships with him, NCSU, and other AWR connections.
