Knowledge Booster Training Bytes - Virtuoso Pin-To-Trunk Routing

Are you still using the manual method for Pin-to-Trunk Routing in your design?

The following GIF demonstrates how the Pin-to-Trunk feature works and enhances your layout productivity.

In this blog, let's understand the basics of the Virtuoso Pin-to-Trunk Routing feature and see how it improves routing in your design.

What is Pin-to-Trunk Routing?

The Pin-to-Trunk routing style is used to connect an individual pin to the trunk. You can explore Minimum Spanning Tree (MST) and Pin-to-Trunk style routing, execute the route with default look-up option, trunk trimming, Via setting, Block level routing, Finish Trunk Option, Layer stitching and DRD compactor option.

All the Pin-to-Trunk related videos are linked together in a channel so that you can easily access and learn what you want to.

The Pin-to-Trunk videos in the channel explain how to:

  • Compose the trunk when changing settings from Minimum spanning tree to Pin-to-Trunk routing
  • Use dimming options which is helpful in interactive routing
  • Execute the default look-up option for automatic route using the width of pins
  • Execute trunk trimming without trimming the vias
  • Use Via configuration when connecting to minimum width trunks by using the option “via enclosure and cut direction”
  • Increase your layout productivity using improved routing functionality aimed at block-level interconnect
  • Use MInimum Spanning Tree style Routing with the default setting using Virtuoso Pin to trunk routing
  • Route between blocks by setting various options in the automatic router options form
  • Use the Finish Trunk command to automate interactive Pin-to-Trunk routing
  • Quickly route a bus interactively using the layer stitching bind key along with the Finish Trunk bind key
  • Compact wires to the target with the minimum spacing rule using the DRD compactor with a new bind key
