Spectre Tech Tips: Moving to Spectre 21.1

28 Feb 2022 • 1 minute read

We deliver one major Spectre® circuit simulator release per calendar year. The base version of Spectre 20.1 was released in September 2020 and that of Spectre 21.1 in August 2021. For these two major releases, hotfix ISR releases are delivered in every 6 weeks. The latest hotfix releases in the two release streams are Spectre 20.1 ISR14 and Spectre 21.1 ISR4, both published in January 2022.

The life of one Spectre release version lasts about 18 months. Going by that, the last hotfix release for Spectre 20.1 will be ISR16, which is targeted to be delivered by the end of April 2022. After this, all Spectre bug fixes and enhancements will be delivered into the Spectre 21.1 hotfix releases only.

We highly recommend our customers to move to Spectre 21.1. The best approach is to move to the latest Spectre 21.1 ISR release available on downloads.cadence.com.

Cadence adjusts the platform support for all Cadence software every year, therefore, the platforms supported by Spectre 20.1 and Spectre 21.1 are different. You may require an operating system update before the new Spectre 21.1 version can be used. Refer to the following table for details.

Spectre Version Supported Platforms
Spectre 20.1 RHEL6, RHEL7, RHEL8, SLES11, SLES12, CentOS 6, CentOS7
Spectre 21.1 RHEL7, RHEL8, SLES12, CentOS7

If you have questions during the Spectre 21.1 qualification, contact your Cadence support team for help.
