Virtuoso Video Diary: Usability of the Graph Summary Label in Virtuoso Visualization and Analysis XL Levels Up

29 Nov 2021 • 3 minute read

We live in a world where the idea of usability is to make products easy to use, make things easily accessible, and visually appealing. It's our constant endeavor to improve the usability of our products.

On-graph labels are great for viewing useful information about graph measurements. Given the space constraint, it can be challenging to fit in a multitude of information when there are many graph measurements to view. This challenge is more pronounced in the case of direct measurements and histograms. To address this, we have made some usability enhancements in the graph summary labels starting from IC6.1.8 ISR21 and ICADVM20.1 ISR21. Read through this blog to know more about the enhancements in graph labels for direct measurements, histograms, and normal quantile (QQ) plots.

Layout and Readability

 ic design

The graph summary label provides summarized information of graph measurements for multiple traces in one cohesive block in a well-indented and easy-to-read layout. The graph summary label works with direct measurements, histograms, and normal quantile (QQ) plots.

If there are more graph measurements to view than can fit in the label, an ellipsis is displayed in the lower-left corner of the graph summary label. You can view all graph measurements in the Summary Information window that can be moved around and placed wherever you want without disturbing the graph window.

Expand and Collapse

Graph summary label also offers you the flexibility to hide the summary information from the graph window if you want to focus only on the graph. How? Just right-click on the graph summary label and choose the Expand/Collapse command. The graph summary label is collapsed and an info icon is displayed. Bringing the graph summary label back is easy too. Right-click the info icon and choose the Expand/Collapse command again.

Copy and Paste

You can also copy summary information of graph measurements onto the clipboard from where you can paste it to any text editor. Simply, right-click the graph summary label and choose the Copy command. You can also edit the properties, such as font, style, and foreground color of the summary text and summary label using the Summary Data Properties for Graph form.

Do check out the Graph Summary Label video to learn the how-tos of these enhancements.
