AMD Is Designing Their EPYC Server Processors with the Dynamic Duo

19 Jan 2023 • 1 minute read

AMD are known for creating some of the world’s most advanced processors. AMD’s EPYC server processors represent a big step forward for high-performance computing, cloud, and enterprise workloads. When it comes to the emulation stage of the design cycle for their products, they push technology to its limits. This is why AMD are using Cadence’s Dynamic Duo, Palladium Z2 and Protium X2.

One of AMD's processors

The Palladium platform’s fast, predictable compiles allow AMD to iterate quickly, even on launch designs. Palladium Z2 has brought them an improvement in workload throughput when compared to the same design on Palladium Z1. For firmware and software validation, Protium Z2 comes into play. The shared front-end toolchain architecture between the Palladium and Protium platforms helps in getting from emulation to higher-speed enterprise prototyping as quickly and as easily as possible. Alex Starr, methodology architect at AMD, said, “Our deep collaboration has enabled the development of features across the Palladium and Protium product lineup to really address AMD's specific needs of today and our vision.”
