finot-conq Is Designing Award-Winning Yachts with Fidelity Fine Marine

7 Sep 2023 • 1 minute read

The Designed with Cadence logoFor over 50 years, finot-conq has been at the forefront of the yacht design industry, and over 45,000 boats have been produced from finot-conq designs, including production boats, cruising boats, and racing prototypes. In the past 15 years, their production designs have earned more European Yacht of the Year awards than any other of their competitors.

To achieve the superior quality of their fast sailing yachts, finot-conq relies on Cadence tools. finot-conq’s long-standing partnership with Cadence is what led them to integrate the Velocity Prediction Program (VPP) that they developed within Cadence Fidelity Fine Marine.

Fast sailing yachts require advanced simulation, and sometimes simulating just one second of sailing time can take as much as one day on a modern server. Thanks to the accuracy and sophisticated modeling provided by Fine Marine and finot-conq’s VPP, what used to take 100 to 200 calculations is now reduced to less than ten calculations to evaluate a design. This saves the finot-conq team a large amount of time in bringing the next generation of boats to the sea. As a result, they’re using more and more CFD to solve design challenges.

Since finot-conq needed to run many calculations in a short amount of time, the team recently bought over 400,000 CPU hours from Cadence OnCloud, in addition to their own CFD capabilities. Recently, they extended those capabilities with a new dual-socket server using AMD EPYC 7773X CPUs. They’ve been able to run in-house at least twice as many simulations in a month, which has been a game-changer for them. David de Premorel, CEO of finot-conq, said, “Thanks to doing our simulations on Fine Marine and AMD EPYC processors, we are able to take our designs to the next level.”
