Helping Physical AI See the Unseen: How EYE4NIR Is Advancing SWIR Imaging

The Designed with Cadence logoImagine driving through dense fog yet being able to see clearly beyond what the human eye can detect. That's the vision behind EYE4NIR, a company developing innovative imaging technology that combines visible and short-wave infrared (SWIR) sensing in a single device. Their goal is to make advanced imaging capabilities affordable enough for widespread adoption across automotive, industrial, and consumer applications.

EYE4NIR is focused on enabling physical AI by giving systems the ability to see information that conventional cameras cannot. For instance, imagine a camera that could inspect the contents of a package without opening it, revealing information hidden beneath the surface. By dramatically reducing the cost of SWIR imaging technology, EYE4NIR aims to accelerate its adoption in everyday products.

At the heart of EYE4NIR's innovation is a unique dual-band imaging solution that integrates both visible and SWIR sensing capabilities into a single device. The company has developed a specialized pixel architecture that allows electronic switching between the two bands. This enables multispectral imaging by providing visible and SWIR measurements from the same pixel, creating a richer data source for machine vision and AI applications. The result is a compact, cost-effective solution with embedded spectral sensing capabilities, all at a price point comparable to a standard camera.

To bring this technology from concept to silicon, EYE4NIR relies on the Cadence full design flow. The company also uses Cadence's cloud-based services, which provide the scalability needed to support a growing engineering team. And for analog design, EYE4NIR leverages Virtuoso Studio to support schematic capture, simulation, and design optimization.
