HPE: Designing Data Centers for AI at Scale

30 Jul 2026 • 2 minute read

One of the biggest inefficiencies in modern data centers is the disconnect between IT systems and the physical facility. Servers, storage, and networking are often managed separately from cooling, power, and space planning. As a result, many data centers operate at just 30-40% of their actual IT capacity, despite being designed for much more.

HPE’s approach is centered on bridging this gap through a unified, end-to-end view of data center operations. Using the Cadence Reality Digital Twin Platform, HPE can model both IT infrastructure and facility systems within a single environment. This enables teams to understand how changes on one side, such as adding new AI hardware, impact the entire system in real time.

This capability is especially important as AI infrastructure continues to evolve rapidly. With shorter hardware refresh cycles and increasing reliance on GPUs, data centers need to be more flexible and adaptable than ever. Cadence’s modeling provides HPE with detailed representations of components, including advanced systems such as liquid-cooled hardware, enabling more accurate planning and integration.

HPE has already put this into practice by implementing a digital twin in its Geneva data center, using it as a live demonstration of how simulation-driven design and operations can improve efficiency. Today, this approach has expanded across HPE’s AI-focused deployment, becoming a standard part of how new data centers are designed and managed.

The benefits extend beyond design, though. During operations, the Cadence Reality Digital Twin Platform provides an environment for testing scenarios, optimizing performance, and improving energy efficiency, all without disrupting live systems.

By combining HPE’s infrastructure expertise with Cadence’s modeling capabilities, the result is a smarter and more responsive data center that’s built for the demands of today and the rapid changes of tomorrow. Learn more about how HPE is bridging the gap between IT and data centers.
